Racor fuel filter

Hey Guys
Does anyone have info on the Racor water seperators?
Im looking at the Racor turbine series, my question is, is it over kill, and what flow rate is needed to suply the VP pump? The one I have in mind is rated at 60gph. I havent heard to much about the stock seperaters capability. also Racor offers many fillters down to 2 micron does any one know what the stock filters are?
Thanks

Unless you run into dirty fuel a lot I think it's an overkill.
I have a Racor on my 1000 ga fuel tank but it's pump does 10 gpm.
The 24 valve filter is rated at 17 gph before pressure drop becomes excessive. Might not be enough flow in the 24's fuel system for the turbine action to work well.

I have the 30 miron filter that is the shorter of the filters. Like the R-45P I put it back by the tank before the pusher pump. Does a great job!

One thing I learned from hydraulic engineering was to never put a filter on the suction side of a pump. What happens is a slight vacuum is produced at the filter outlet that forms air bubbles in the liquid. When these bubbles reach the higher pressure side of the pump they explode violently, this causes what's called impingement on high pressure side which erodes the pump material.
Not only do the pumps wear out rapidly but the eroded material contaminates the liquid.
A 100 micron screen is the finest that should be installed on the suction side.
