It doesn't burn well, leaves extra ash in the cylinders.

It's funny the 3rd Genners are discussing the same thing but they are totally scared to use 2 cycle oil... Only if they knew what we have figured out and got going...

Lot's of us 3rd gen use 2-stroke oil to add lubrication, after all, it is made to burn, and these engines are not as finicky as some would have us believe.

Wow, a lot of good info! I'll try the 2-cycle oil to see any change. I baby my truck, but i can't see a little oil doing damage to mechanical parts. Does the power service additive have the same quieting affect?

no change

I put a quart of 2 cycle oil in my truck with about three quartes of a tank of B20 and so far I have not noticed any reduction in noise. Believe me my wife would do anything to quiet my truck down. I do believe the 2 cycle is a good way to improve lubricity with the ultra low sulfer diesel and prevent premature failure of fuel pumps. Just my two cents.

give it a little time, it took me a couple of weeks to really notice it.

I thought I noticed it within a few minutes. I'll keep adding 2cycle and see if it gets quieter in a few weeks.

Yes, you should notice a difference within a few miles. I can notice a big difference when I'm running straight diesel when I forget to bring my additive with me to the pump. Normally I'm not in a big hurry to rush home and put it in, so I might drive all day without it. Once I do add it, I hear a noticable difference.

The 3rd event, I believe, is for emision control. The purpose is to ensure no un-burned fuel goes out the pipe.

To Give you a idea of how strong 1 quart of 2 cycle oil is is 30 gallons of fuel. Here is a picture of the fuel drained out of my fuel filter housing and my old filter. Take notice the light color of the fuel and the oil doesn't die the filter media. Yes... The 2 cycle oil is DARK BLUE from the bottle. But the fuel is like a mint green.

So for you guys that are affraid to dump a quart of 2 cycle oil this is mixed about 120:1... Here is the proof it not that strong at all. It don't even look as strong as chain saw fuel (50:1) Let's hope not... But we are sure adding lube to the fuel for sure... Compared to PS mixed as directed at 400:1 (Scary though)

mopar1973man, how many miles on that filter?
the reason i asked, is when i changed mine after 3k-5k it looked brand new and my diesel is clear as can be. sometimes i add up to 2quarts when i fill up(i know it could be too much) and its still clear.
