quick stack Q's

ok i have reasearched this and found two way to go at this either build the stacks myself or get a kit loke big blues from ebay. now what i want to know is which is a better route. i have access to a welder and a master welder to help me so should i just bulid it myself???

also what is a better way to do the set up a steel box in the bed or round tubing i know i want 5" miters about 2" above my cab.
do you guys know how long i should get my stacks i was thinking 36" but are those tall enough to go over my cab?
ps these are going on this summer so no i dont have pics yet

thanks, kyle

Well, if you buy a kit, you get all you need, you don't have to think, and you'll spend at least $400.
If you build it yourself, from the semi truck parts store, you'll save about $100, or more, and get that "I did it" feeling.
The square tubing in the bed is the cheapest, most durable if you haul anything, easiest way to go. Just straight pipe back, 90* elbow up though bed floor into square tube, cap ends, weld 2 short pipes on, and stick on the stacks. You should use a short flex pipe underneath for frame twist.
Or, Straight pipe back, 90* elbow up through bed floor into Tee, 90* on one side of Tee, straight pipe over to other side, 90* elbow, put on stacks. A little more work, a little more "fitting", a little more money, looks a little better, flows a little better. The Tee is about $100 and elbows are around $25 each. Pipe is about $5 a foot, for 4", a little more for 5". 5"X36" stacks for $75.
You could start with the square tube, then add the elbows and tee's later.
Height will need to be checked depending on whats at the bottom. The elbows will be higher than square tube is, possibly a foot, depending on which style elbow you get.
Just more to think about I'm going through the same thing. I will probably use the square tube, because I want to be able to use the truck without worrying about damaging the pipes, and I'm not going outrageous on the hp mods, so flow isn't a major concern. I'm planning 4" downpipe into a 5"X5" or 6"X6" square tube with 5" or maybe 6" stacks.
