Questions about upgrades

I have an '02 that is stock. My main concern is reliability and durability. I want to know what my best options are. Looking through the site, I am starting to really want to put some four inch stacks on my truck. I do want some added performance, but I do not need 500 HP as this is my service truck. What other upgrades should I consider? I like the Edge with Attitude monitor and the Walbro pump. I suppose that I should also get a new intake. Anything else?

get 5" stacks. 4 inchers are to small and look weird. ive herd good things about the edge additude. and a new intake is optional.

or you could go the smarty/tst stack route. youll need guages this way because the additude comes with guages. a new intake would be ideal. And you would have a pretty decent truck

Another Lt Almond 02...only the third one I've run into!
The Edge will be stressful on your stock tranny, turned up full. But if you drive it reasonably...you could use some of that added power!

Won't need a new intake or exhaust till 350-400 hp...the exhaust or the Walbro till 425 hp+/-. I would look at bigger fuel lines...I like Scottys Max Flow System. It extends life on lift pumps and increases fuel flow as you add hp. Nice set up.

To handle the Edge HP I would consider a replacement valve body.... Call DTT, they can set you up for about $400.00, and allow you to play safely with your added power.

5 inchers, huh? I like the look of your 5" stacks. I'll have to think on it. I appreciate the input. Do you like the Holley Blue?

I hear that you can run the edge untapped from the VP and get 60HP more than stock. I also like the attitude monitor. I figure if I wanted to later I could tap the VP and get more horses. I want a dependable pump to my VP and I am afraid of the stock lift pump. Will Scotty's system save my LP?

I am looking at buying another truck and I found another '02 Lt. Almond 2500 4x4 that I am leaning towards. (I am starting a service company.)

The Scotty Fuel System was originally designed, as I have been told, to extend life of lift pumps by reducing the pump recyclings. The higher fuel pressure at WOT is just a bonus that has become the reason for many buying it.
With Scottys fuel system, I ran the original lift pump 2 yrs, till I had to upgrade (FASS) due to HP pulling FP too low.

Also, you have a great tranny shop in your city that knows how to handle CTD autos with higher HP! That's a big plus most of us don't have.

Good Luck!

I believe it's called Smith Transmissions.... or Ronnie Smith Transmissions. Biggest one in town.
325-673-6601. Talk only to Kenny Smith.

He knows CTD's well and has done them with big hp! I don't know him but a friend of mine (Dodge guy named Dennis, in Sherman, Tx) is very good friend of his and has been up to 450 hp. Best to use his name, cause mine won't mean much to Kenny.
I have sent a few guys from the base to him....and they were all impressed, from what I heard.

Good Luck!

You have a few options out there, for simple fuel mileage Superchips is very popular. Edge juice with or without the attitude monitor is always a very reliable unit. You are correct in wanting intake and exhaust, when you add your new programmer both of the others will complete the puzzle nicely for you....ultimately giving you added mileage.

I agree about the intake and exhaust but the Walbro is a solid and reliable pump that I would run even if my truck was stock. I wouldn't fall into the FASS bandwagon without researching cheaper/better alternatives.

If you think Jo Allen's was good, you need to come back and try Betty Rose's.

Thanks for the words of advice from everyone. Ive been a cummins nut for a few years, but I never made any upgrades for performance. I wasn't sure where to start.
