Question for you folks running DDIIIs with the HO engine

Hello
Here is my truck.
2001 2500 4x4 HO with the 6 speed, 4:10 gears and 315 BFGs. I have added a SBC, Edge EZ, DDIIs, -8 fuel line kit, BHAF,4 inch straight pipe and gauges. I have removed a TST PM3 ( my truck don't like it)
How I use/play with it.
We have a 11k 5er that we pull as often as we can, also a 26 ft goose neck rated for 14K.
My truck as she sets out in the drive way right now will turn 326 HP and 799 Torq. My son and I went to Iowa and bought a tractor the CAT scale showed us weighing in at 20,090 LBS that is the truck, tools, trailer, tractor and a full tank of fuel. We came home through the West Va. turn pike (I77) with no trouble, I never had to down shift unless caught up in traffic or needed to slow down for a toll booth. My tow speeds are 60/65. The highest temps on my pre turbo EGT gauge was 1200/1300.
I have my truck set up for pulling what ever I hook up to it, dependabilty means more to me than have a neat toy.

Now my question
If I change out my DDIIs for a set of DDIIIs will I have high temps.

I have all the power I need, I just would like a little more for pulling a tractor pulling sled, call it a family bet. ( Brothers own Chevys) I want to spank them real good

Thanks in advance for your input.
See Ya
Chris

Psst, Mach 3s, KSB1, TST PM3 COMP will spank that DMax badly j/k

In all seriousness though, if you don't want to swap turbos, stepping up to the DD3s will probably take your temps from the 12/1300 range up to 13 - 1500. With an EZ, we've seen DD3s add anywhere between 100F to 200F to the EGTs when swapped out for DD2s.

Chris, you mean to tell me that you STILL haven't made
up your mind on the DD III's????? Darn buddy, you
have been talking about this for AT LEAST a year or
so now!!!! Just go ahead and buy them, get them
installed and don't worry about those temperatures!
All you have to do is let that right foot control those
temperatures!!!! ;D You have seen Johnner and I do
that on a regular basis!! My old 96' has over 215,000
miles on it now and you know how I drive!!

Good luck buddy!!

Re:Question for you folks running DDIIIs with the HO engine

Chris, I have towed lots with heavy loads with my 01' and the EGT issues were very minimal...of course I am using a Scotty II to assist in the EGT control. I'm not trying to sell that to you, it just works real well. Running an Edge EZ, stock turbo and the Scotty II did not have EGT problems at all. Running an HX-40 and the same combo...I reduced egt another 50F.
B1 KwikSpool and same combo...another 100* lower.
Adding an Edge Drag Comp...no issues unless I was on a very steep grade and RPM's were under 2K. This was only a spike to 1500 and dropped to 1250 with a drop of a gear.
The TST Comp and my combination was the best...I simply lowered the TST to level 1-3 for towing in the hills.
Sometimes I would run on level 9...as long as I had the RPM's in the 2-2400 range on grades I was ok. If I was in the 1700-2-2100 range, I had the flutter in the boost...of course I was at about 20 psi of boost when it did this. If I was in the 30 psi or higher and accelerating...no flutter. There definately was a spot where I had a flutter from the pressures. Was that what you were having?

Re:Question for you folks running DDIIIs with the HO engine

Chris,

You know my truck. I run the ddIII's with the edge ez, and the tst pm 3. I do run the stock turbo. I also have that Scotty
2 system. Man it sucks COOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLL air. well, when I tow, I step down to level 2 or 3 on the tst, and have no trouble with egt's.
If I get high temps, I drop a gear and feather the go pedal. It works great. No shifting either
when I hit a steep grade. Go for the 3's Chris.

Re:Question for you folks running DDIIIs with the HO engine

Thanks for the replys.
If I am judging the posts correctly if I install the DDIIIs I should also change out the turbo. I would like to maintain the same safe zone as far as EGTs go. I spend most of my time in the 18/2200 rpm I DO NOT WANT TO LOOSE MY BOTTOM END.
Dumb question
If I took the same load up the same hill with DDIIs and the EGT was 1300, would the same load with the DDIII have the same/or close to the same EGTs.
The reason I ask this is unlike drag raceing Sled pulling is much like pulling a grade you are there for a while to get to the top or to get to 300 feet.
Thanks again
See Ya
Chris

Re:Question for you folks running DDIIIs with the HO engine

Chris, I think you will be real happy with the DDIII's. I have them in my 99 now and they really and some punch to the bottom end when towing. I didn't really see much of an increase in EGT's going from the 275's to the III's but my truck runs much cooler than what you say your's does.

By the way I'm still on my stock turbo and 3 1/2" exhaust.

Darrell
Thanks for the info. What are the temps that you are seeing?? I thought my temps where on the low side.
Running empty roughly 600
towing 5er roughly 600/900
Towing 5er/GN up hill 12/1300
Thanks for your help on this.
See ya

Re:Question for you folks running DDIIIs with the HO engine

With the PM2 on, stacked with the EZ and the III's I never see above 1300* towing my TT or a lightly loaded gooseneck. If I go over 25,000lbs on the goose I will usually turn the PM off and then I keep the EGT's in the 1250* range. I do that just because of the added weight, I think it's a little easier on the engine and drive line. 8)
