Question For The Engineers
#31
OK, my turn for a tangent. Vizard is one of my three favorite "car guys". I feel that the greatest car guys are Smokey Yunick, David Vizard, and Larry Widmer. Of course, jmo.
But I love the way that they went out showing how the "conventional wisdom" was wrong. Smokey was famous for it. Vizard used science to show how the conventional wisdom was wrong. Widmer thinks so far out of the box that he can't even see the cardboard.
I've read every single thing I can find that any of these three has written. I read it over and over and over again.
Back on topic-- I like the Scotty Air

Its interesting how I never hear about these experiences off the boards.
You are comparing a product from many years ago that also had the poorly made K&N filter originally. K&N did not make an effort to improve their product, I have.
Have you seen my air intake in person lately?
Thanks for the report though.

I really meant no offense. I have not see one of your new Scotty 2's I guess then. But, I really doubt anyone with in four hours of me has one. But, I could be wrong. I was wrong about your product. From all of the good things I have heard about you, I think I will contact you about trying one of your latest and greatest and give it a try before or if I attempt my airbox. Besides, I need (Yeah, I will tell the wife "I need") a fuel line kit. Might have to wait until September for the old birthday though.
Once again I did not mean to offend you. I guess you are correct, I should have asked some questions of you and not necessarily in a public forum. But, I will apoligize in public for my case of foot in mouth.

So much for the scientific approach!
A 4" hole is more than adequate when pulling from the cowl. When the vehicle is moving, the pressure in the air plenum below the cowl is positive by about four ounces for every ten miles per hour, until you get beyond reasonable speeds and it turns negative due to lift as the air flows over the cab.
The secret will be keeping the inlet tube from the hole to the filter plenum the same size or slightly smaller ID as that of the hole. Otherwise you will develop a considerable amount of turbulance at the hole in question as the air will create a venturi effect when it breaks over the edge of the hole and into the tube if the tube is larger. The venturi will negate any gains because it will generate a positive pressure swirl and impede the incoming air.
