Pyrometer installation question
I've got my new Autometer Pyro gauge, and I'm ready to get it in finally after a small delay from yesterday.....
Anyhow, The instructions tell me to WELD a fitting onto the exhaust manifold.....
Can't I just drill, tap, and install right into the manifold ?? That's what I've heard to do up until I read the directions. What's the advantage either way ??
Thanks

never tried welding on the manifold, the drilling tapping thing works well, theres lots of instructions to be found, make sure you drill off to the side, not in the middle, also my thermocouple was a 1/4"npt tap.not 1/4 nc or nf.i had to buy the special one.probaly never use it again.some guys take the turbo off, some use vaseline on the drill and tap,{i did}and atached a small piesce of tube to my shop vac and sucked out any filings.do a search for instructions with pics,it will work out fine if you take your time.

drill and tap it off to the side, if you can get the turbo off it would be alot better, i did mine with grease in the drill bit and tap, but wouldnt recommend that way, i had lots of filings still in the manifold, got them out with a magnet.

Yea, don t drill it in the middle. If you pul the turbo, you ll see exactly why, its a divided manifold. If you have a die grinder you can also match up the ports pretty easy, due to the already ran condition, you ll see the carbon build up where the mis match is . I probably took more then .125 on each side.....1/4 inch total...
