Pyro Troubles
Has anyone else experienced this.
I have a Autometer Pyrometer. I can go along for a week or two and everything goes great. Then all of a sudden the needle jumps around, might even quit for a while. Then, it will come back on and run for another week.
I went back and checked all of the connections to make sure there wasn't a cold solder joint. Everything is good from that end.
Any thoughts?

Have you tapped on it to see if that wakes it up?
Next time it craps out, check to make sure that there's power to the gauge.
If you tap on the gauge and it comes back, it's a flaky gauge. AutoMeter has pretty good warranty/customer service, call them and let them know you're having problems.

Check the two wires where they screw together the screw from one maybe cutting into the other causing a short. Also check your power source wire, may have bad connection due to the size of the wire.

I only live 50 miles from Autometer. The last time I had a problem with a gauge, they told me to come over and they would exchange it for me. So, from that stand point they do have good customer service.

Autometer's amplifier is in the gauge itself.
I spoke with Autometer yesterday and they said the problem could be in thermocoupler or quage. They wanted me to run the truck with a voltmeter attached to the thermocoupler and watch the mili-volts. (this will be a trick). If the voltage starts to jump around then it is the thermocoupler. If not, then it is the gauge.
I hate all of this diagnostic bull####. What ever happened to install and go?
