Pyro gauge reading
I just finishe hooking my pyro gauge up, and I'm in need of some help understanding it. First, it is a Isspro pre-turbo.
My question is, as I'm driving, the temp moves up and down depending on how far the right pedal is down, is this normal? At about 40-45mph, it reads 425-450 degrees, is this o.k.? Finally, when I pull my race trailer, 10,000#, what temps should I expect to see?
All I have done is a 4" exhaust with the muffler.
Thanks for the help, Don.

Yep its perfectly normal!! The exhaust temps change REALLY fast depending on how much you are on the throttle. And pulling trailer temps all depend on the grade of the road and how hard your accelerating. You could possibly and should see temps well above 1000*!! And incase you don't know this already, don't ever let your temps go above 1350* for more than 5 to 10 seconds or you will start melting some vital engine parts. So just as long as you are under that 1350* mark, you are good to go!!

Another thing with the Pyro, when you go to turn if off (if you don't have a timer) let it cool to at least 300. I usually shut down at about 250-300 depending on what I've been doing.

I just shut mine off whenever I put the truck in park. Only time I use my timer is when I feel like it or I'm bored. Other than that, come off the highway, pull into the parking lot, shut the truck off. Temps are around 450* or so but oh well. I've been doing that for 87k miles and my turbo still spins just as easily as the day I bought it and there's absolutely zero play in the shaft. Now if you've been pulling a trailer that's a little different but if you've just been cruising around, I wouldn't worry about it. But then again, that's just me.

Shutting the engine off based pre-turbo pyro does not tell you anything about how cool the turbo is. It's not bad to let the engine cool a little but that cast iron housing takes a lot more time to get ride of the heat then it does for the exhaust gases to cool.
