Pulling the Trigger

Pulling the Trigger
After much research on this forum. I'm going to take the plunge
as far as Fueling Boxes. Once again I have a 2001 HO engine.
I've narrowed it down to two choices. The DDTTPM or the
Van Aaken V5. I want to be conservative because this truck
will take me into retirement and will be shared by my 13 yr.
old son in 4 years. I plan on injectors at 100,000 then thats all.
I pull a 6500# TT once a month for camping. Whatever you guys
suggest I'm going with.

I dont have a lot of goodies either, due to money mostly, but I think you are talking a good approach here. First off, the HO's respond better to injectors than boxs but that doesnt matter. If reliablity is a big issue then I would NOT get a box that taps the VP wire. After reading these sites for years I have finally come to the conclusion that unless you want that $1500-$2000 gamble then stay away from the dreaded wire. Many guys have said how much they are happy with a mild box and some injectors. Thats what I eventually want but I have to wait for clutch money or the truck will be sitting because I cant afford injectors and then replace a fried clutch soon after.

Mild injectors and a Edge EZ should not hurt your clutch. I have not tried anything beyond 1 x 5 with my DDII's and have no problems with the clutch. I have been waiting to try more levels on the Edge Comp, but I am waiting on my purchase of a SB Clutch. With what you want to do, I seriously doubt that you will need to upgrade the clutch.

My only concern about the Van Aaken is there is no
information on how aggressive the timing advance is.
Thats why I like the DDTTPM over the Edge EZ. Does
anyone have any info on the workings of the Van Aaken V5 ?
I don't want to melt my HO.

hey diesel camper, my buddy that just bought a 04 has a power puck from his 01 H.O. He does not want much for it and it was a good kick in the pants for the money! If you want I will see what he wants for it! It is useless to him now,

Clutch holding is a crap shoot, so you better plan on paying if you want to play.
That said, an EZ with the jumper on #1 (least aggressive) and some mild injectors (RV275s or Mach 1s) is more than enough power, and give great MPG too while still allowing the clutch to live.
I installed some Mach 1s on a 2001 ETH truck. Driving 65, he now gets anywhere from 21-24 mpg.
Not bad at all.

I have 275's and an EZ on my 01.5, I did have to spring for a South Bend OFE. Very happy with the power and the clutch is holding it great. It tows excellent, and averages 19.5mpg. I can get 23mpg cruising empty.
The injectors made a big difference, which was amplified when I added the EZ. I used to keep my EZ on setting 3, but got pulled over for "visible emissions" so I changed to setting 2.
I dyno'd it on 10/9/04, 310hp, 774lbft, just to give you a ballpark on your power.
