pulling my hair out... time to sell the truck?
cant seem to stop haveing to fix this stuped truck, got off work driving home theres a clunking noise soft but deff there, guessing u joint out. some sort of squeeking... no clue not breaks ( i hate squeeks), brand new fround caliber has a problem now. rubber pice around the slider poped out. still havent figered out problem with dash. has about 130k on it right now.
have already fixed, put $2k into electrical still not done, front hub convertion working great, fass filter to fix fuel leak and fuel filter houseing working great. put about $500 in breaks just broke agen. and probibly another $1k misc. shop time for things i done even remember getting fixed now.
theres a 2001 in the ads here, 71k on it 4x4 auto, for $17k, could switch my bumper and bed to it and sell this one for hopfuly a decent price with everything i got on it, i know theres no way to break even but maybe its time to cut my losses. any thoughts?

You got all that stuff on there already, why buy something else with less mileage that you may have to put that stuff on again? Example, 2001= lift pump deaths.....VP-44.
Yeah, I have an 02' replaced VP44, lift pump by dealer at 92,000 and other stuff I'm replacing I'll buy the best I can so I can get rid of the cheap crud dodge littered an otherwise good truck with.
If it was me, I'd keep it, unless your just dying to buy something new. U-joints, no big deal, replace them with greasable joints....another junk invention, "greased for life u-joints" that just means we were'nt sellin enough of the "greasable" u-joints because they last to long, so now we have the term "greased for life" which eguals junk.

well heres the fun part, i cant find a bad u-joind... last i had a jeep with symptoms like this and it wasnt a u-joint, i needed a new rear end... the problem is that i dont think the person before me kept up on its matnence, but did a great job of hiding that when i bought it, everytime i think i might be getting close to replacing everything that would need fixed another 5 things breaks, i really think this think has spent more time down then on the road.

One of the most common misconceptions people have is an aftermarket greaseable part will outlast an original equipment type factory lubed part. While theoretically this should be true, in most cases it is not. In fact, since I entered this business in the 1970's, I have seen countless examples of factory lubed parts outlasting greaseable components by as much as a 5:1 margin. There are several reasons why this is true. One is quality, very few aftermarket suppliers build components to anywhere close to original equipment standards. Today, the vast majority of the ball joints and u-joints being sold by parts stores are made in Asia with the primary emphasis on price and not quality or durability. These offshore components do not have to meet ANY Federal motor vehicle safety standards.
The other big reason factory lubed parts generally outlast greaseable parts is customer maintenance. The the best quality greaseable component is only as a good as the maintenance it gets. Greaseable parts should be lubed 3000 miles or every 4 months which ever is sooner), or after every submersion. Only top quality, water resistant synthetic NLGI-2 grease should be used. Today, very few people perform maintenance anywhere close to this standard. Even if they do, there is another problem. In most cases, the upper ball joint can not be greased unless the axle shaft is removed due to space restrictions.
In our shop, we always install factory lubed ball joints unless the customer has a solid preventative maintenance program and/or the front axle is regularly submerged in irrigation ditches or creeks. For those of you in this category, we offer first class, American made greaseable ball joints and universal joints for many applications.

GET RID OF IT. You will never trust it again anyway. Ask yourself this question. (Even when it's running good) - - - - Would I put a heavy trailer ( or truck by itself) and go on a long trip, say 1500- 2000 miles and be confident you would make it there and back, without trouble? Cut your losses, sell it, take your time and find a truck you really like and talk to owner a long time, check it out real good, Even if you have to pay someone. Get your new truck and be HAPPY! again. Thats what I do anyway. DON'T KEEP ANYTHING AROUND THAT YOU CAN'T TRUST - WIFE, GIRLFRIEND, DOG, MULE, BULL, JACK, TRUCK OR BOAT.

haha, ya thats what iv been thinking. the only time its left me stuck at the side of the road what when the breaks went out but i still wonder when its going to really leave me stuck. biggest problem is that the only trucks i like for the price i like are in TX, it better be good if im going all the way there and driveing it all the way back. that and i wanted a 6 speed in the first place settled for the auto(not big on the 5 speeds) this one has never got the milage it should with everything i have on it, im really leaning that way.
