PSC steering boxes q's

Ive got a leaking sector shaft seal on my steering box which is probably due to the synthetic fluid I put in there over the winter. Anyways, Im thinking now is a good time to get rid of that awful 4 turn steering box. Do I need to ask for anything special or are all of these boxes on PSC's web site 3 turn?
I dont do any offroad with this so anything thats good enough for the heavier diesel front end should be ok.

I dunno about PSC. I'm on my 3rd box in a little over a year. First one wouldn't turn back straight after turning left, the next one puked fluid during slow speed manuvering, and the one I've got now won't turn back straight after turning right and after long trips will get very stiff and hard to turn. Don't get me wrong they've given me excellent service but I'm tired of swapping boxes out.

Were the boxes that died factory boxes or PSC? How long does the box swap out take you?

As an Observer, I lived through Big Blues problems with PSC boxes. I heard, shortly after that, PSC had pulled their CTD boxes for redesign. Must have straightened the problems out cause they are selling again.

I drove one that had the Hydraulic assist (?) or whatever they call it. Was serious power steering!! Had to drive with one finger from each hand to keep it straight at 60 mph. Made a U-turn with it which could have been done with a pinky.

Nothing wrong with it, the owner (Longbob) loved it. I'm sure anyone could get used to it. Just very different... very responsive with no feeling of front end weight!

RJ,

How do you think I drive it while talking on my cell phone and drinking my Slurpee.

Interesting. I have used a couple of their boxes on power steering conversions on 4X4s in the past and had good results. If my steering box would have gone out I would have gone directly to PSC. At least they are standing behind their product!

Hm, so they offer boxes with extra hydraulic assist? Not the $1000+ thing with the extra cylinder on the steering linkage and all that right?
Still wondering if you can get these in lower turn ratios and what to ask for. Its the wheel travel thats getting me on the highway. I probably look like a drunk alternating from left to right in my lane
So if PSC is still experiencing problems, what other companies do enhanced steering boxes for the CTD?

Tiger Rag, they were all PSC boxes. And I have the DSS steering brace on the box as well and have had it on there since the first box. They are now saying that my pump is getting weak and I need to replace that. We will see.

Thanks guys. Just keeping tabs as my steering is still a little loose. I've done the DSS and Thuren track bar. I run 35" tires on offset aftermarket wheels with a 2" leveling kit. I've got 120k miles or so. Just ciphering on the next step. I may just try and tighten the factory box another time or 2. Not sure what else may be wearing out and needing replacement. Any thoughts. Sorry about the hijack....didn't mean to.

Mine was a direct replacement of my stock power steering box. They both steered easily. The PSC box is a 3 turn quick ratio vs. the 4 turn stock box. I love the thing!

See, nobody else seems to have an issue with it but me. I don't understand it.

Your problem is obvious......loose nut behind the wheel.

Where are y'all buying your PSC steering boxes? How recently did they redesign the box?

Thanks, Matt
