Prices on Twin Turbo Setups?
Just curious if you know where to get a setup for a decent price?
I saw one today in the latest JC Whitney catalog - specifically for dodge - at $3500...

If you're looking at twins there is no decent price. For that kind of performance do you really want the cheapest set? It's kind of like building a $1,000,000.00 house and then having the cheapest landscaping company design your yard.

Probably one of the best combos for the street and towing is a HT3B and your existing HX35. You can get a used HT3B for about $200, and a 14cm non-gated housing for the 35 for $150. Then a couple of 4" SCH 5 elbows for about $10 each, and a few feet of 4" SCH 5 pipe, a bit of welding consumables + some good old fashioned time in the shop.... Humm Looks like about $400 to $500 if you enjoy designing things with your own mind and building things with your own hands.....
Still not sure what exactly $4,500 buys you from the 'PROS', other than a brand new HT3B and some chrome??? So what is the other $3,500 for ????

i bought mine for right around 200 bucks, brand new off ebay. i can make all the flanges i need for free so that is a big cost saving. and weather you use the stock waste gate, or a big aftermarket make a big price jump in itself. i picked up the 4" metal donuts from thechassisshop.com. they have enough material for 2 sets, cost 60 bucks each. i modified the waste gate on the hx 35 to flow more and to even out the pressure between the front 3 and the 3. but my lazy butt has still not put them on my truck. i did the 6 speed and dual disks so i can handle the upgrade now. but i need to pour the concrete for my shop first. i also have a full machine shop and welding shop at my disposal.

Direct from piers "...All turbos are custom built to PDR specifications, which may include modifications to the oiling of the turbo shaft, PDR's extreme heavy duty bearings, and zero balancing. The primary turbo exhaust housings are modified with larger wastegates and to allow the wastegate to work on all 6 cylinders." That might be part of it. Plus R&D and all that chrome. They also include a 5" downpipe, AFE filter, and allow the user to retain the 2nd battery. For 2 modified turbos, pre made chrome piping, new down pipe, new air filter, retaining the 2nd battery, and Pier's reputation, I'd pay $4500 for all that.

CHROME!!
Lets see...
Oil lines = $60
BHT3B = $500
HX40/35 Hybrid w/ 14 cm wastegate = $1100
Exhaust pipe 4" and 5" = $350
Hot pipe = $6
Plate for flanges = $10
Intercooler boots/clamps = $50
Chrome = $160
14" afe = $50
filter boot on the BHT3B = $45
Blow off vavles = $10
Drain for BHT3B = $1.50
Misc. Silicone hose = $20 (that stuff is expensive!!)
Turbo gaskets = $15
Total = $2377.50 for just parts
Then throw in about 20 hours labor @ $55 an hour = $1100.00
The above doesn't even price in an external waste gate. (Those are expensive!)
Its not that hard to build them, just patience, time, and lots of beer!!! O ya, and a understanding wife.
Justin
PS after the twins are done. Plan on spending at least $1000 for studs, orings/fire rings, machine work, and gaskets. That does not include labor.
The old saying "How fast do you want to go, how much do you want to spend?"

I would not begrudge Piers and others for their asking price. I don't blame anyone that can and does go with twins, I just decided to see how far (HP wise) I can go with my B-1 ($1,600.00).
Spent only $388.00 total to install an external wastegate so I can add more Hp and hold boost at a cool 46 psi. Was up to 53 psi with heavy drive pressures and lots of hot air. Dropped existing EGT's 100* at WOT.
Works slick and should allow me to get well into the 500+ HP range, I think. Having fun finding out anyway.
Not trying to take over the thread, I just mention it as an alternative to those not quit ready to shell out four grand and not able to build their own.

I have looked over turbos and parts Piers sent out for 04.5 Dodge - Piers usually upgrades the bearings on the hx40's but then you lose the VRC balancing. Which probably doesn't matter either way.
They charge what people will pay. The fit and powder coat finish was excellent. They make a good product and you wouldn't be dissapointed if you bought their kit. My only gripe is on the mount you weld up to brace the bottom turbo. I know there has to be a better way to do that.

Did you ever call PDR and ask them about the issues that you found with the twins you got????? Seems to me if you were unhappy with the product they(PDR) should have been the first phone call on the list..
