Price for clutch install

what would be a fair price for a installation shop to install my SBC OFEK into my truck?

one guy wants $1,000. another guy wants $720.

Figuring $90/hour, $720 is a fair price. Anything higher, the shop is just gouging.
what do you guys/gals think?

these under the conditions that I supply the clutch.

thanks

Will always cost you more since once in there they will find, rear main seal leaks, slave cylinder leaks, rear trans seal shows signs of leaking, found U-joints binding recomend replacing, how about flywheel, throw-out bearing, pilot bearing, trans rear seal, get my driff?

I'd say either price is fair, provided a good job is done... if you don't think so try it yourself.

well I know a clutch is a clutch to a certain point. But I would recommend the people you are looking at have indeed installed a southbend clutch and familar with a dodge and what to look for during teardown and install etc. You could always contact SouthBend / Peter and find out if they have any SB approved installers in your area.
You could save alittle of the shop time if you know how to take the 150 Bolt/Screw off the plastic and shift tower area. and tell them you will reinstall it back on after. that would save you about 1 hour time total.

well if you read sarcasm in my reply I'm sorry but there wasn't any meant.
The comment about the 150 bolts and screws was a joke because if you have ever taken that apart, There is way to many bolts and screws holding plastic and boots to the shifter.

good luck with your quest.

Last year before I sold my '06 I had to put a clutch in it because the dual mass flywheel was acting up.

I bought all the parts for the single mass flywheel conversion plus new hydraulics. Truck was 4x4 which adds to the work a little.

Cost for the install was $650.00 and they did a nice job. One day out and one day to go back together. I think their labor rate was around $75. This was a 2 bay independent garage with 2 experienced mechanics. Low overhead operation.

Time to replace the rear main seal while you are there...I can't tell you the number of people that have wished they had...

I have never paid over 450 for install. New flywheel installed every time. But I live in Missouri. 4-6 hr job max.
