power steering fuid is foamy??
hey guys so im almost done with my truck and i filled the power steering resivor with fluid and was running it when i noticed that it was foamy, i tried flushing it, thinking from it sitting for so long maybe water got in it or something, but it is still foamy, does anyone know why? thanks

thanks guys, well the resivor was probably low or empty, the engine had been sitting for probably 2 years before i put it in my truck, i filled it with fluid and ran the engine, when i turned the engine off it started foaming out the cap, so i unhooked the feed line from the resivor to the power steering unit and turned the truck on and flushed the system twice, but im not sure that is what "OOPS" was talking about, so how do you bleed the system? thanks

Mine does the same thing. I've changed fluid 5 times lately, still foamy and hard to steer. I changed with Lucas universal tractor hydraulic fluid, still foamy but steers better. What gives I don't remember it being foamy before.

thanks, i didn't know that it getting hot or overfilling would cause it to be foamy, but it did finally go away, i think there was just air in the system and it just took a while to go away.

use tranny fluid in your p/s pump. works alot better. as for bleeding the air. 1) jack the front of the truck up and put on jack stands.
2) turn wheel lock to lock with the cap off the resivoir.
(this will work the air out)
3) run the truck and do the same as #2 and watch your fluid level and add as needed.
this will get the air out.
good luck.
