Post SO VP install questions

Truck runs nice and smooth since I put the new SO pump on my HO engine. Its just that it seems down on power a lot more than I thought it would. My mileage has dropped a bit too, I think mostly cause I gotta keep my foot in it more to maintain speed or accelerate to the speed I want. My peak boost has also dropped from 21lbs. to 19lbs. Max egt never gets higher than 900-950 if I really lugg it on a hill. Old pump used to hit 1000. Is this normal? Should my egt's get this high? And how much power do you loose when converting to the SO? I used to short shift at about 1500rpms around town, now it seems to like going up to 2000 a lot better. Just seems like it takes forever to accelerate up to 65mph. If non of this is normal, then I wonder if I've got a leak at the intercooler. I figured since my boost was close to factory spec, there weren't any leaks.

Sounds like it's time for a programmer. Smarty, Comp or what ever you like.
The SO pump is better for high HP than the HO pump from what i'm told.

You can make a tester out of some plumbing parts, you can use a 4" clean out and drill and tap for a air supply fitting. You don't need more than around 15 lbs of shop air to check for leaks.

Yeah, I new there was gonna be some power loss, but I didn't really know how much to expect. I went with the SO cause i plan on making over 500hp in the future. Still saving up for Quads new race box Are my boost and egt #'s normal for a stock truck though? I only hit 950* if I really lug it up a descent grade in 6th with my foot to the floor. Otherwise it never hits over 900.

Don't forget that the stock HO injectors are smaller than the SO injectors.

An SO pump on an HO motor is really for those with larger injectors boxes etc... looking to squeeze more power out of their trucks... Stock truck and SO will provide less performance than an HO

Afoulk, your numbers sound good to me, my SO is a dog with everything turned off back when I had stock injectors. Just save your pennies, the race box will be great from what Quad's email revealed.

well, thats good to hear. I really just wanted to make sure those numbers were right. Hopefully come tax time I'll have enough to get Quad's race box and a twin disc clutch with the upgraded hydraulics.
