POSSIBLE gravel-guard protection?
Not sure if this is the right forum...
BUT, while at the local Yardbirds today, noticed in their spray paint section, a Rustoleum product supposedly for coating tool handles and such, supposedly suitable for outdoor service, and "dries to a testured, pliable surface" or words to that effect. Looks like it MIGHT make a good application to the lower panels of our trucks to protect against rock chips tossed up by the wheels - it comes in different colors, and also in a clear...
ANYWAY, I bought a can $4.99, and sample-sprayed a couple of test surfaces to leave outdoors to see how the stuff acts... Time will tell...

There already exists a compound literally called "rock guard" that professional paint stores have for this application. It sprays on and looks like yellow glue, then you paint over it the color of the rest of the body so it looks uniform.
What color is the stuff you found?

Chris

If you really want great protection, then try this. Go to your local LINE-X distributer and have them LINE-X the lower rocker panels of your truck. The only drawback is that is going to be Black, however there are other LINE-X style applications that will do various colors that will probably work for this application. Word of advice about the colors, they are almost impossible to color match if they have to be replaced and they do change colors (fade) over time. I would stick with the BLACK it has a lifetime warranty from LINE-X.
Just my .02 worth

That line-x stuff must not be uv resistant, I noticed on mine that where the sun hits it it turns brown and under the rails where it is in the shade it is still black. The brown looks horrible too.

Actually, it's quite easy and inexpensive to restore the original appearance of Line-X with the use of one of the common black bumper treatment sprays...
