Possible to dye filter?

Not sure if this is the right forum...

Has anyone ever tried to dye an aftermarket filter like a K&N or AFE? I ask cause I got a used AFE cone filter, and there isnt any blue on it anymore, just grey, I know the oil will make it blue again, but it will fade a bit, I like the deep blue look of a brand new afe filter, especially since my truck is blue.

I dont see how dye would hurt it in any way...

You could get a pre filter or outerwears for the filter with the color of your choice. AFE makes them to fit their filters.

Thats a good suggestion. They look good and provide a bit better filtration

Does anyone know what the pre-filter will drop the CFM to? I think the AFE blue is around 850.

I don't know what it drops it to, but it does drop it. After putting in the new AFE race filter with the inverted cone I could really hear my twins scream vs the std pro guard 7 AFE that came on it. After putting the pre filter on, it reduced the turbo whine slightly so I know it reduced air flow to some degree.

my buddy works at green filter and since they supply their intakes to a few companys they get the filters in white and then dye them blue,orange/red and leave the others white before they ship.
i think its just regular dye for material but ill ask
some companys dye them after they get them from green.
if you read this carefully youll know who sells green filter/intakes under a different name.

That would be great if you could find out, cause if I can do it Im gonna dye it a deep blue.

Hopefully when I get the oil from AFE it will stay in the filter now instead of getting sucked out of it like the K&N. I guess it could be the 40-50 psi sucking out though

But from what I hear, that is a K&N thing with the diesels.

IMO It's an 'Over Oiling' thing! I ran K&N, with factory oiled filter for 18 months and never had any oil, dust, dirt or debris of any kind in my air intake or turbo inlet!

But I do feel there are better filters out now that flow just as much or more air than the K&N.
