posi rear end

I have a 99' 2500 auto and in the rain or snow one tire always breaks free. Do I have any options for an lsd? Or is there some type of additive I could add?

Your best option is a Dana Powr-lok LS unit. Very heavy duty and lasts a long time. About 500.00 at a diff dealer/web site. Dana offers 2 different LS units, but the Powr-lok is the heavier duty.
I have 224K on my 96 and the LS is still tight in it.
The LS on my 99 is so tight it sometimes acts like a spool when turning corners and applying power.
The Lok-right is cheaper, but cannot take the torque for the Cummins. I have even heard the same about Detroit Lockers, which is what steered me away from them, plus I have seen people break axles turning corners with a Detroit. It didn't leave them on the side of the road, because of the locker, but they still had to put an axle in it.

I was under the impression all Dana 70's (auto trannys) were Power Lok's? Mine is. Thought only the Dana 80's went to Track-Lok?
Replacing and rearranging the curved clutch faces can give better grab! But be careful what you wish for.
Mine slips about 1/2 rev and then grabs nicely!

My understanding, and I am no rear-end expert, was that the Powr-lok was the stronger of the two, the Trac-lok being weaker, and the Trac-lok is offered for the D70, but was never installed as delivered from Dodge. All Dodge applications of the D70 came with a Powr-lok.
If I am wrong, please correct me.

Others here did convince me that the Powr-lok was the best thing to go with, vs. lockers, if I couldn't afford an ARB. That's the point I'm trying to get across here.

Thanks,
Chris

Yeah, It costs $500.00 for the LS, and another $400-$500 to install.

Your probably better off and cheaper to find a whole axle with the LS in it. Call around to a couple of bone yards.

You are right power-loc is the beef. But a Detriot being weak I have never heard this, they are one of if not the best type of locker their is compared to ARB they both stand at the top unless you go for the SCS Mini-Spool.

What's involved with repacking/stacking the rearend? On right turns, I floor it, engine revs, but no wheels spin, is this possible. I have never got out and watched someone else drive my truck but the lack of rubber is what leads me to believe this. On left hand turns, however, my truck will lay a nice patch.

FYI: I'm normally good to my tires but I just got a new set in the mail yesterday and I want to finish off these unevenly worn Buckshot Mudders. Some places are smooth and some places have 5/32", pretty sad.

Will repacking the rear end on my dana 80 help finish off the old rubber faster?

Re-Stacking should make a big difference. On the Dana 80 rear ends, Dodge only did the 'alternate stack' (Clutches & Steels) on about 1/2 the plates. I believe, this was done to avoid customer complaints over chatter.
Restacking all the plates should be very noticable increase in grab... if that's your goal.
Repeat: with the light rear end on the CTD - be careful what you wish for.

I put a few hundred pounds of sand in my truck in the winter time. I just want to have more traction. When I'm off road climbing steep stuff, I hate that only one wheel spins in the rear. My buddies Xterra will outclimb me anyday due to his 3 wheel spin compared to my 2wheel spin.
