popping/missing/white smoking at high rpm's?
Hey guys. Every since ive had my truck it has popped, and missed, and white/blue smoked at high rpm's(2900+). My buddies also does the same thing, and i was wondering if this could be timing. I havent timed the truck, and im persnally doubting its ever been timed, so im sure its slipped. I want to advance it to 15.5-16 degrees. Do you guys think the timing is whats causing this. I just put in a new overflow valve from Marty. Only other thing i could think of causing the problem would be the lift pump, but what do you guys think? Lift pumps dont go bad to often in a 12 valve do they? My truck also misses at lower rpm's when i start it after setting overnight, and try to rev it. Any help is appreciated!

My bet is on timing. Mine used to be a mosquito fogger when I'd start it in the winter. Then I timed it and she's all better now. I wouldn't waist my time doing 15.5, go straight to 16.5 or 17, our little pumps like a little more advancement

Yeah. I think i will just go ahead and go to 16.5. I had thought about that anyway, but im a little worried about advancing it to much; but everyone else has it to 16.5 with no problems, so it seems like i shouldnt have anything to worry about. Did it lower your EGT's any? Thanks!

I've advanced mine to 17*, still does exactly what you're talking about.
I'll soon rule out whether or not it's a internal problem in the pump
I'll make sure to let you know what I find

Signature600: Allright. Im HOPING timing will fix mine, but if it doesent, im thinking lift pump? Have you replaced your lift pump? Did advancing the timing lower your EGT's any? Please either reply back to this post or shoot me a PM if you find out the problem! Thanks!
