Plate Position

What do you all think, from experience, will be the gains from moving my #100 plate from a stock postion to 1/16" from full forward position? Will there be that much difference? I have never moved the plate, all I ever did was grind it and put it back in the same spot. Thanks.

there is a big difference between a plate slid all the way forward, and stock position. my 10 plate with 370s will hit 1400 degrees before I hit 4th gear slid forward, and stock position will hit about 1200 degrees shifting into 4th. I have to back out of it at 1400 because I am not as brave as some of the guys that have no qualms about pegging a 1600 degree pyro.

I dont have the stones to get mine that hot either. I try to stay away from 1200. I am happy with the power my truck has, just curious if there is that much more to be had with sliding the plate, and at what cost does the power come?

That's the funny thing....i have pegged my 1600 pyro on a couple of occasions and now im scared when i see it creeping to 1200! I would say your setup is fine for now, wait until you have a larger turbo before you go looking for more fuel. My setup is close to yours and with the HX40 it still has too much fuel. Not to mention with the stock and hx-35/40 hybrids my truck had, it still managed to fry all 3 of em.

your egts will get hotter. you can go to about 1250 continuously, 1350 for 15 seconds, or hotter than that you are playing with fire, and your engine is going to get burned. I had my 1500 degree pyro pegged once when I was mudding, and didn't realize it. It took like a few seconds to start coming back down. It didn't hurt anything that I know of, but I am definately not going to make it a habit to do that sort of thing. I am building twins, so pretty soon, I won't have to worry about egts again, the only thing I have to worry about will be keeping the boost down.

So, what turbo is suitable for my setup with a plate slid forward, assuming the transmission will hold long enough to find out? Would the KSB-1 be enough or too much?

Im sure my tranny is the weak link in this whole equation, but would I REQUIRE head work with a SPS62?

sps62 will work just fine w/ no head work. you'll want at least some studs, but preferably a good o-ring job too in order to really take advantage of that turbo. mine has been to 48-49psi a number of times. drive pressure is 5psi lower across the board!

In anyones opinion, am I cheating my self by running stock striaght pipe exhaust? Do I need to be using four inch or better? I understand that four inch will perform better, but with the fuel and mods I have, do I NEED a four inch system?

"need" is such a subjective term

I would say that yes, you are cheating yourself... buy the cheapest 4" system you can find and throw it on there (preferably w/ no muffler)

the turbo will spool up better,EGT's will come down a little, and it'll sound great...

you should be able to buy a kit for $250 or so...

if you know you can live without a muffler, you could build your own pretty dang cheap... (you can run w/ fewer elbows w/ straight pipe, just tuck the pipe close to the bed)

The only reason I havnt bought an aftermarket exhaust is because I want to do a stack set up, if I ever get the nerve. I cant decide which to get, a dual set up or stacks. Anyhow, I dont want to have to change a bunch of parts between a regular system then getting stacks then getting another turbo and needing to change downpipes. So once I make up my mind and find a bunch of money I will move on with my mods.

I hear that!

I say build a stack setup now

just use a box crossover...

run 4" from the downpipe up to the crossover... if you don't like it, sell the setup. you can build a simple box stack setup for a couple hundred bucks. you can sell it for that much or more if you don't like it.

if you like it, get your turbo and a 4" downpipe and hook it up.

if you don't, sell it and get a 4" system.

Im almost scared to do the stacks. I dont know how well they will be received by John Q. Public you know. The duals out the back will be louder than what I have now, but probably more of a conservative choice. IF I do stacks it will be the crossbox because of price. That is a good idea, put the stacks together and just change turbo and downpipe when I make up my mind. Like I said, when I find a bunch of money I dont need!
