I rebuilt a 3.9 in a Gradall last year and the Cummins gasket set came with plastic replacements. Don't know why they don't use metal, but I'm not an engineer. : Jim

well its always $$$.
but rumor controll says that the ist 2yrs of the 24 vavlers this is whats killing them..they get hot and fall out/break off-what ever go awol..but a wrench way up in the ranks says it vibration that breaks them...so i was just wondering if some one else has tried this aproach, steel instead of plastic??
so when you do a oil change i sugest you make a tool and fish around in there for some little green tubes..esp if your still under protection because aftor 100000 they do not care to help :'(

Somebody over at TDR had these fall out into the oil pan. Somebody besides him said he'd seen it too. How serious a problem is this? Should I drop my oil pan on the next change?

if yours is the ist of the isb i strongly sugest doing what you got to do to est. that there not laying in the bottom of the pan... its becoming real evident it s a problem that dodge and cummins is running from .
