Piers I/C boots

Just finished installing my I/C boot kit from piers, took me 2 hours i think (including beverage breaks ). It was definetly an event requiring lots of patience, a very good vocabulary , and i definetly see that i could benefit from some cardio vascular exercise. those boots are STIFF, especially compared to the flimsy stockers...

Too late to suggest, but next time I wonder if soaking them in a bucket of hot water would have loosened them up for install?

I always use water or spit to lubricate the boot and aluminum before installing.
That helps alot. Putting on boots dry is quite the task.

I've heard letting them soak in near boiling water for a few minutes makes it a lot easier to put on.

I used a little bit of rubber lubricant i had around from changing tires , just enough to get things to slide in. the passenger side was the hardest, getting the lower boot on and indexed right , then getting the pipe slid into it and indexed right took a few tries , got it all together , and the elbow wouldn't line up to the turbo , the boots piers supplies are a little longer , so i had to take it all apart again , trim the boots , and start over from step one on the passenger side, that is what slowed me down and made it so hard.

I would call this a 3 beer job , but that's because it was a saturday morning, now on a friday evening, this could have easily been a 10 beer project...

Hair spray works wonders. It lubricates enough to slip it on and when it drys it helps to keep from blowing a boot. You have to get everything situated before it drys or it's a PITA.

Go buy the hairspray man. It'll be good practise for when you're married. There's a lot worse "woman things" you could be buying.

Lining up those boots can be a PITA. When you get them on the intercooler, leave the clamps loose. Install the tubes and tighten those clamps up. A small oil filter wrench slipped over the tubes works great for rotating the assemblies into position.

I agree with the patience & vocabulary... and I'm not a pro mech. like you.
But I now subject my piers boots to 65 psi boost and they have never come close to slipping off! Well worth the original hassle. Only tip I had was soapy water which is not enough help. Softening in hot water is way to go!

I've been married almost 10 years. Believe me, it's cheaper to just go buy the hairspray.

Mine keeps coming off the passager side on the 65-75psi runs. Its driving me crazy. I'm almost at the point of using adhesive to keep the darn things on. I'm running the boots plus PDR clamps. The next things that come off is my air tubes. I'm also thinging about installing braces on the air tubes and bolting them on. Man air leaks are tuff on my turbos spool-up time and pegs my pyro so much earlier.

Some sanitary pads will work well for cleanup too
