Pic of Westach fuel pressure gauge install?

I'm looking for a pic of the placement for the sending unit. I'd like to mount it away from the filter housing. Anybody got one?

Also, what ground should I tie the gauge/sender into? What color wire, on a 99, do I tap into for the dimmer function?

Almost forgot ... what's the best thread sealant for this application?

I used an 18" grease-gun extension hose from the top of the filter port to the sending unit which is clamped to the master cylinder bracket. I have noticed that the rubber on the outside of the hose is starting to crack from age and the heat (it's been on there for five years). I will probably replace them with braided SS lines soon.

As far as the ground,, I just used a good body ground location under the dash I believe. The sending unit is also grounded at the bracket. I tapped into the wire that supplies the light in the ashtry for all my gauge lighting. This way it dims with the rest of the dash lights when using the switch.

Any good automotive paste type thread sealer will do fine. DO NOT use Teflon tape due to the possibility of tape fragments clogging the VP-44.

Hope this helps.

Awesome pic, thanks!

How, exactly, did you mount the sender? I was anticipating making a bracket, of some sort.

Which wire did you use for the postive connection?

I have the Westach FP gauge with 2 senders (pre and post fuel filter). I mounted both of them to the brake master cylinder. Looking at the picture Rattlinram posted, mine are mounted on the left side compared to his. For a bracket I used an aluminum U shaped mounting bracket that came with my Autometer gauge. Used 3 hose clamps – one to secure each sender to the bracket and the third to secure the bracket brake housing. It’s been in place for over 3 years with zero issues.

Here’s the gauge:

I will try and post a shot of the senders.

I ended up mounting the sender to the line running from the brake master cylinder to the power steering pump. I put a piece of rubber fuel line around the line, attached with a small hose clamp, which secured a larger hose clamp. I then slid the sender through the larger hose clamp and secured it. I ran 1/4" fuel line from the sender to the filter housing. If I knew how to post a pic, I would.

piperca,
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, but I see you got-r-done. I've been working some overtime hours and the weather has been cold and raining. I basically did the same trick using a hose clamp to secure the sending unit. I still haven't traced the 12v hot to power the gauges to see where I pulled it from. TOO many "irons in the fire"!
Glad to see you got it done.

Rattlinram, thanks for the info, your pic gave me the idea.

As for the wiring; I tapped into the "ignition fd" fuse for the 12 volt power and the "illumination" fuse for the lights ... worked out perfectly!

I still have to drill and tap for the thermocouple. The instructions say a 5/16" bit, but when I picked up the 1/8" tap, the package says 11/32". Do you think 1/32" is going to make a big difference?

The only gauge I'm missing is FP. I like your dual FP gauge. What all did you have to order or did the gauge come with 2 senders? I'll prolly mount my gauge in an A-pillar pod, but definately interested in the dual reading seatup. How did you wire it up? Did it it come with instructions? or what type of switch did you use? a DPST, DPDT?
