PE FUEL PUMP PROBLEM
My new pe fuel pump is dropping pressure from the normal psi of 22 down to 15 then it will jump back up & down again. My gauge is mechanical & is ok & the pump continues to run but the pressure is all over the place.I know that there were some problems with these pumps does anybody know what the problem was & can it be fixed.I love this pump & hate to loose it.Kurt.

Re:PE FUEL PUMP PROBLEM
Hey Kurt!
They were having some troubles with the cartridges in them failing. I think if you call PE, they'll simply replace it, although you may end up having to take the pump off your truck and send it to them. Their website addy is www.producteng.com

Re:PE FUEL PUMP PROBLEM
I talked to Mike at PE and he said they have a whole new bypass setup for them. Send your pump to them and they will replace it with all new and updated hardware and return it to you free of charge.

Re:PE FUEL PUMP PROBLEM
Also were is your pump located? if it is located at the skid plate and this kind of thing happens again, They will give you another braket and you must relocate it at almost the stock location so it doesnt get wet. Thats what they told me.

Relocating it would be a problem for me. And probably for most people. I have -8 fuel line running to mine. The last thing I want to do is have to cut and modify and splice these lines. I've already got to replace a fitting on it cause it's bad. I'd just build a little shelter for it so it won't get wet.

Re:PE FUEL PUMP PROBLEM
Kurt,
Unscrew the plug on the inlet side of the pump under the inlet line and pull the spring out (screw the plug back in... fuel will pour out of there!). Stretch the spring between 1/8 and 1/4 inch and put it back in. Be sure to put it in with the flared end into the pump. The spring presses on a ball bearing inside that lower section to control bypass pressure. Basically, your bypass is opening and closing now with is causing the pressure fluctuation.

Re:PE FUEL PUMP PROBLEM
John,
I already did that when my pressure was slowly dropping to about 18 or 19 psi when it is normaly 22 or 23 psi.I pulled the spring out & streched it about an 1/8 put it back in & the pressure was back to a solid 23 psi.It has been working perfectly since then but the other day it dropped down to 15 then back to 22,23 then down again & its been jumpin up & down ever since. If the spring lost tension again it would not go back up to 23 again. This is a internal problem within the bypass or regulator.I called Advanced Diesel Technology where i got the pump & line kit from & talked to Doug he said no problem he will send me a new pump free of charge.Ya gotta love great service, its a real pleasure to do business with profesionals who appreciate there customers.Kurt.
