pdr-hx35 vs. dodgezilla

I was just wondering what the difference between the pdr hx35 and the dodgezilla turbo is. And if it was worth the extra 400$ for the dodgezilla?

The DZ uses a ( the largest, I think) HX40 compressor housing helping keep things a little cooler. Is it worth it? If you added some injectors you will probably wish you had it. JMHO. I love mine DZ and at 420ish HP works great for towing and horsing around Give the folks a City Diesel a call for a more technical answer, they're awsome and really down to earth.

Second that.

The Dodgezilla uses the largest HX40 compressor wheel, and mates it to an HX35 exhaust turbine. The advantage here is that the flanges on the HX35 turbine are stronger than on the HX40 -- the 40 flanges have a tendency to shatter, which imbalances the shaft, and voila! -- an HX40 fragmentation grenade.

The 35 turbine will also spool a bit easier than the 40, and that's good for mildly modified engines.

The Dodgezilla is no more durable than the PDR HX35, but it has a broader map and sustains higher boost. I've been running one for 20K miles and so far I'm happy with it. I tow at all altitudes, on and off road, etc.

The City Diesel folks are very willing to work with customers, too. I had an issue mounting the exhaust housing to a Jacobs exhaust brake, and they bent over backwards to work it through.

how much is a stock hx35 worth because if you could sell that it would probably bring the two prices close to being equal.

A slght haze, nothing at all to worry about though and very easy to control. Of course if you stab the throttle from a dead stop you'll probably get a few dirty looks. I'd give Rip at Source Automotive a call if your considering the 2's and a DZ since he carries both.

Couldn't tell you, I did the turbo swap (DZ) the same time I put the Injectors in and to be honest I can count the number of times on one hand I actually used 5X5.......still working up the nerve I guess. The thought of me losing a VP right now just makes me

Gear Poet,
So if the DZ is a HX 35 exhaust housing, what was the problem getting the Jacobs to attach?
I want to get the Jake, but am concerned about future mods not being compatible...ie...4" exhaust or bigger turbo (DZ)....Thanks

The problem is that the Dodgezilla is about an inch larger than the stock HX35, because of the larger compressor side. Normally you can move the exhaust downpipe back an inch without any trouble, but not with the Jacobs exhaust brake. The fitting is also different for '01-'02 flanges. There are HX35 exhaust housings available with different flanges, dimensions, and bolt patterns -- it was a matter of finding the right one.

FWIW

I really like my Dodgezilla - no problems mounting it as I used my HX35 14cm exhaust turbine - and the exhaust system stayed in the same place.

The US Gear exhaust brake is an in line 4" model away from the exhaust turbine so the problem with the Jacobs brake fitting is not an issue. Also will be simpler to change to a larger turbo in the future.

PDR1113501 PDR HX35 Turbo ( 99-02 new style housing ) $650.00

Dodgezilla
Price complete with a 12 or 14cm wastegated housing $1085.00

Price minus turbine housing $675.00

Here is how I got the 400 difference in price.

Unless things have changed, 650 does not include an exhaust housing......
