Painting Exhaust System Before Install
I have an aluminized exhaust system, and was wondering if anyone ever considered putting a good coat of high temp paint on them to maybe help scare off any deterioration??
They should be good for about 10 + years here in Georgia, but was just curious as to if anyone elses done this...

Anyone used powered graphite, I saw an exhaust manifold recently that looked good. It would smuge off on your finger if you rubbed it. I forgot to ask if you took a towel to it to get the excess off if that would work. Nice grey color.

I'll try to paint an axhuast when I put it on. I try to get a good coat on all the joints and were the pipe are rolled and welded. I bet on a system that normally last two years. i get another 6 months out of it.

I painted the pipe on an old dirt bike with the expensive hi-temp paint. Lasted about 6 months before chipping. Repainted with some cheap house brand Canadian Tire paint. Sold it two years later and the cheap paint was holding up really nice.

I bought a old Honda dirt bike with a freshly painted exhaust and muffler.
First long ride with it and I smelled something burning, turned out the guy had covered over the rusted out muffler with duct tape and painted it over.
No matter, it was still a good deal.

Aluminized steel pipe was introduced 30 years ago to help the exterior and interior survive a harsh environment. Painting the exterior is not required. Mine survives a salt/sand winter condition. If you choose to weld any portion then protection is required. The carbon steel weld is the rust point. Those of you with welded hanger brackets discover this sad fact.
per latitud_rt use sillver hitemp paint.

~Eastwood~ used to sell a hi-temp SS paint that could be brushed on but I havent bought any for over 15 years now so you will have to check their web-site to see if they still make it. It was awsome stuff but expensive, it worked better than anything else I tried.
