Question Painless wiring kit install

I am in the process of installing the Geno's painless wiring kit. This is the all ingition hot circuit kit. As I am not wiring confident my question is what color wire at the steering column is the ingition hot wire? Also I will need the color of the wire for the dimmer switch for my gauges that I am installing next week? Do you run separate hot, ground and dimmer wires up to the gauges or do you splice them together then run them down? The gauges will be in an A-Pillar (3 mount) with EGT, Tranny and Boost.

Thanks

Dawna

I spliced mine together and ran a single wire to the fuse box for the switched 12v power. Also ran a single wire for illumination to the back of the headlight switch and tapped the dimmer wire (not sure which color...it's been awhile), same with the ground, connect all the gauge grounds together and run a single wire down to a good grounding point.

Does your cigarette lighter work when the truck is off (not sure on 98's).

If it doesn't, then that is a great "ignition hot" wire to splice into.

It is protected by a nice big fuse as well, can easily handle guage power in addition to lighter power
(if you even use it as it was intended)

Thanks that is exactly what I needed to know. I'll find out what color the wires are. This will be the first time I have wired anything in any vehicle myself so I am getting an education.

thanks
