I spoke with Dave for just over an hour last Saturday on my drive to San Diego. He talked to me a little about the '97 2-3 shift.

Isn't there something to make that problem go away?

I've had one of Daves trans for about a year. Anybody that has not been in a Dodge diesel with GOEREND BROS TRANS, don't know what their missing. I had mine shipped to to me did the install myself. The first drive with new trans you'll think you are in a totally different truck. Seems the more power you make the better these thing work!! Don't be afraid to buy a trans from Dave just because he dosn't have large ads in the magazines or a big fancy website. You will get your moneys worth from Dave. And if any problems should arise you will be taken care of. You can't go wrong with Goerend. Thanks Steve B.

Daves son Mason has a bad valve in his heart. He has to have surgery every couple of years to replace it because as he grow so does the valve. Dave is a top notch guy. It was but a!@ cold when I was up there. I stayed in the next town over. When I got into town, I pulled into the hotel and went in. The lady behind the desk said "here to get your tranny fixed?" I asked how she knew and she replied. "All you diese guyz come to St. Lucas to get your trannies right."

Didn't he tell ya, or did you miss it? I had the same problem with my original VB....he sent me another one on his dime and no more 2-3 overlap. IIRC, he explained it as 3rd gear apply before 2nd release, resulted in a hard drop into 3rd under light throttle. Now it's smooth all the way through the gears at any throttle position.

Cowhand, Royta: I live in Ventura. Seems there are quite a few of us on the "LEFT" coast. It would be cool to have a git together. I believe there are at least 6 members near us.

Yeah, one of them (spunbearing) bailed me out in Kettleman City. What a mess that was.

He didn't mention anything about 3rd gear apply before 2nd gear release. He did mention that there is only about a 200 RPM drop between 2nd and 3rd though. If you're just lightfooting along, it's no big deal. But if you're really going for it, the transmission won't hang in 2nd like you'd expect it too. The PCM sees a certain MPH, and the transmission goes to 3rd. Apparently it only affects the 1996 and 1997, and probably the early 1998, 47RE crowd. In the 24V engine, there are engine sensors that tell the PCM what's going on, which in turn controls the shift points better.

It's not really a big deal I guess. If you really need to get it on, just shift manually.

About how much should you expect to spend on one of Dave's trans and convertors? Does he have a website? What is his contact info?

Either Dave, or one of his guys, rebuilds/tests the trannys. They are built in his shop, not farmed out.

His guy said it can take up to a day, to get a tranny built and tested. They don't rush it, and make sure everything up to par. They are very meticulous.

Dave had a really nasty cold, so he made a point to kep some distance so I wouldn't catch it. Did get to visit some while he test drove my truck, before and after the install. He, and all his crew are top-notch. Very impressed.

The tranny has been very much a "best-buy". Wish I had done it sooner. I have had it a little over a month, and have put on ~3,000 trouble-free miles on it, so far.

The simplest would be to give Dave a call at (563) 778-2719. He will ask you a few simple questions and quote you a no frills price for what he believes you need. His prices are quite reasonable and his service is definitely top notch in my opinion.

Yeah, but no core charge as long as I got it back to him within 2 weeks. Shipping both ways was included in what I paid, so I don't know what it actually cost...
