Talking Paid a visit to Goerend's today

Finally made it up to visit Dave Goerend today to get my tranny rebuilt. I got to watch while the work was being done. Dave is a great guy, he even takes the time to explain things as he goes. I know this has been said many times before, but I will say it again: it's well worth every penny to get your tranny upgraded. The difference is amazing, I was all smiles all the way home.

Man. I keep hearing all these good things about his tranny's. It makes the decision between him and DTT that much harder.

Dang, me too.

I have just about enough saved up, that and the tax refund should put me right in range.

Whichever I do, I wanted to go straight to the source, watch it happen, have all my questions answered.

ATS is a half day drive to the east.
DTT is in Canada, never been to Canada before, 2 days up, couple days for tranny and sightseeing, 2 days back, nice week off work.

Goerend is a bit too far to drive though.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Mishkaya: Congrats!!! Oh what a feeling!!!!. Must be nice to finally have the truck like it should be in the first place. I am chomping at the bit to do my tranny. What all did Dave do to yours ? Did you go triple disc? VB? different band lever?. Too bad for me his shop is so dang far. Can you actually spin your tires now ? Did you get a lockup switch ? Ok I am going to calm down now.

I too am very anxious to get my tranny worked on. I am in pretty bad need of it, and cant wait till i get it done, but it wont be by any of the big manufacturers. Just a good converter, new clutches, and seals. Should still make all the difference though, and my valve body has already been modded some. I cant wait to get it done. It stinks having to baby the truck because of the tranny.

Yes to everything except the lockup switch. It sure is sweet having the response it does now. It will take a while for the effects to wear off.

Too bad as it is a typical small town with friendly people.
I drove the cart up the hill for a snack and the clerk in the store greeted me as I walked in and said something to the effect "getting your transmission fixed?"

Dave and I have spent many hours talking shop on the phone and in person. I sure wish he wasn't 500 miles away.

They had a rebuilt tranny waiting for me when I arrived for the scheduled day. They stripped my old tranny while he built the TC. Dave apologized many times for replacing a good trany. There was no significant visible wear on the parts. Only the OD unit was getting ready for service.
I reminded him it was my decision and didn't want to put in a used trany behind a new converter.
My stock converter was toast. Lock-up clutch burned and the turbine hub was ready to let go.

I had lunch with dave at the store and was indeed greeted by the clerk much in the same fashion you were. True the people are friendly there, as they are in most small towns here in the midwest.

I am not sure what I have, I just took Dave's recommendation. He asked what bombs I had and what my future plans were and made the appropriate decisions for what to install.

Does Dave rebuild your tranny or takes it as a core and starts building up an already rebuilt one? After taking starters to rebuild shops and buying a rebuilt starter that has half of the power my stock did I've became quite found of having my own stuff rebuilt.

He had an improved valve body and torque converter already prepared to install, but simply rebuilt my tranny. Inspected everything very thoroughly I might add.

He seems like a pretty cool guy from all the stories I've heard and his thorough email reply he sent to me after asking about a higher hp rated tranny. After reading about his customer service, great warranty, and conversing with him I no longer look at manual tranny trucks as possibillities.
