Pacbrake controller compared to others?

Hi Guys,

I see that PacBrake offers a controller with their exhaust brake.
I'm thinking to go with the PacBrake exhaust brake, so could just get their controller, too.
Alternatively, ATS and BD and DTT (I think) offer controllers as well.
Anybody out there use the PacBrake controller? How's it working for you?
How about comparing it to the others?

I'm not aware of the PacBrake brand controller. Could you list its features? Be aware that any EB controller will be specific to the model and year of the truck, so read their website carefully. Also, you must know that an EB is nearly useless unless the converter is locked, and that most transmissions won't stay locked when you need it, and many rebuilders advise against locked upshifts and downshifts.

Back to your question, I have the ATS Commander which they installed along with the PacBrake and their bombproof transmission. The combination is by far the best few thousand dollars I ever spent, exceeding my expectations. I can easily adjust the lockup speed, even as slow as 8 MPH in first gear, the tranny stays locked for all upshifts and downshifts, and the PacBrake engages whenever I lift my foot in lockup. I can also turn the Commander off and the tranny reverts to factory shift and lock mode but of course I have no need for that.

How does it feel driving it with the converter locked up? Does having the converter locked up affect your mileage good or bad? How do you like the pacbrake. Im thinking about getting the pacbrake with the ats controller when I have some money saved up. Also Ill have to do the tranny.

I have DTT's brake controller and I find the locked upshift from 2nd to 3rd to be a nuisance. It seems like you loose a ton of boost during the shift which of course translates into crappy acceleration with a heavy load behind you.

This thread belongs to Rockysinmyblood and I do not wish to participate in a hijacking, so I will be brief. Driving with the converter locked up feels like a stick shift. No slushbox. The PacBrake is excellent. (for whiteVLX) My 2nd to 3rd locked upshift is harsher than the others, so I usually lift my foot to soften it, but this is only in the mountains pulling a load so of course I loose my boost. I control all my shifts pulling a load by shifting with the lever, so I can choose the RPM of each shift and thus I can choose the RPM after the shift. Boost comes back immediately at a decent RPM.

Ya sorry I didnt mean to steal the thread. I just saw you guys wre talking about the pacbrake and the controller and I figured Id just ask how the lock up felt becouse I am interested but dont really want to start a thread on it at this point becouse its a ways off.

And I have talked to the guys at pacbrake there main shop is about 15 minutes from me, The controller that they sell with there brake is the ats controller. They also said that there exhaust brake holds the same pressure through the whole rpm range better then others.

Yeah, I see that ATS sells PacBrake, so it makes sense that the controller they reference on the PacBrake site is ATS. That's fine by me, since the ATS controller appears to have all the desired functionality.

The Pacbrake controller is a bare bones controller designed only to lock-up the torque converter during braking. If you’re looking for a controller to lockup under power check out the ATS or DTTS as they will do both power and braking lock-up.
