p1700 pump

I have had a similar post but it needed some revision and clarifying so...

I traded my 97 p1700 for a 94 p1700 my 97 pump just had a fuel plate the 94 has 4k, 191 delivery valves, rack extended and 100 plate not sure if plungers or anthing else is done? that is all the work i have done to the truck still have stock injectors stock turbo etc......here is my questions

1- If i go to start it in the morning it fires right up runs for 5-10 seconds then kills off then i have to crank it 30sec + sometime for it to start again but once i have started it in the morning it is fine the rest of the day then it does the same thing next morning...is this normal with the pump work i have done also forgot to say the timing is changed a little but cant remember how much?

2- Can i do a valet switch with all that pump work or will it not make a difference cause it is one smokin motha!!! i am concerned cause sometimes i dont like all the power and smoke im not the most conservative driver u could say haha also in my county they are gonna start emmisions next year so i need a soulution?

any help with either of these questions is very much appreciated!!

I have repaired some equipment with the P pumps, so this is just my 2c..

Your starting problem- sounds like you have an air leak into the fuel system- about 5-10 seconds worth of fuel from the injection pump. The truck starts, then tries to run of air instead of diesel, and you need approx. 30 seconds of turning to get fresh diesel into the IP. I would look at the fuel filter- lift pump area.

A valet switch will only change the way the truck drives with the turbo spooled. So if you have smoke when you are still low on boost-adjust your AFC. (You can get those engines rather well behaved on smoke without sacrificing pep when you step on it with a little patience.)

You write that you have an HY35.... This sounds much too small for the kind of fuel you have- what are your EGTs ?

I second the air entering the fuel system after shutdown and sitting.

Does it only do this when cold after an extended shutdown?

Yes i can go to lunch at work an sometimes instead of taking the work truck ill take my truck and its fine after sitting from 6:15 till noon and even if it sits 10 hours it seems to only do it when cold....do i have a leak that seals when its hot?? it seems to get worse the colder it gets at night...an yes WAY too much fuel for that little hy the only reason i have it is because i blew a hx 35(stock cant handle 43lb boost hahahaha) then got an hy that had no wastegate for 100$ just welded her shut then twisted the shaft in half after another 43lb boost run...then got this one i run now from a buddy who owed me and wasnt paying up so i BORROWED!! it out of his garage i dont have the money to do a decent turbo i want a s300 but$$$$... it doesnt get too hot i mean ya i can sink the egts pretty quick but i have an aftermarket exhaust manifold that i think helps a bit but if im carful i do fine gettin on it a bit
