Now if i were to put the 215 pump in and not mod it, leave it stock, how would it run? would i need to put a plate on it? maybe a Gsk or dvs? or would it run fine with no mods?

Stock or with a 10 plate would be a great setup. The issues do not start until you try having a dual purpose rig - competition and towing. A 3000 gsk would be a nice addition as well, but 4k is past the limit of the 24 valve springs.

My rig would not be a competiton rig, just a daily comuter+ocasional workhorse. And having it p-pumped would be a great conversation rig I have a second vehicle to drive til i got it all tuned right, i'm going to start the conversion in the coming months so i'll keep you guys posted! Thanks for all the info and tips!

I did the conversion on my 98 24. Started with a 160hp pump and that wasn't enough. Replaced it with a 215 pump with DVs and a GSK and am really impressed. Like everyone else has said fine tuning is the key. I use my truck for fun and pulling a trailer and have had good luck so far.

It gets in the way, just hang it anywhere you can, mine is and has been laying on the frame rail. Soon it will be gone along with the pcm and all that wire mess that goes along with them

I have read that the fuel economy goes down when switching from a electronic to a mechanical pump. But is this because it has been tuned for 500hp+? I am researching the conversion and don't need more than 350hp, 550-600ftlb ( even that is overkill for me). I currently get 25mpg@70mph after an auxiliary overdrive install, other then that my rig is stock. Aside from the engine being in a different make of truck.

My old 94 12 valve that my FIL now ownes gets better fuel mileage than either of my 24 valves ever have, stock or otherwise

Here's some crazy thoughts, what other type of injection systems do other engines use? say Caterpillar, Mack, International? would it be possible to adapt and injection system off of one of those engines and make it work on our trucks? i'm sure someones' thought of it, what ever those trucks use must be reliable cause they run for a long time without any probs, well most of them. Oh and i've found out good news since I last posted, the 12 valve's oil pan was just dented, none of the internals were damaged! It was hard to tell at first, I had to cut the engine out with a sawzall and torch! So now i'm just putting the whole engine in, with the wiring out of the other truck, If i can get it out!

You can use the same cam, but the factory lift pump and all the junk that goes with it needs to be trashed, A FASS or similar style pump works fine you just need to get enough PSI out of it
