p pump conversion

Pointers:
Make sure you have a.) enough time set aside or b.) another vehicle you can drive.... the swap is one thing; tuning and working out the bugs are another thing.
Sourcing a conversion kit is the easiest way to make sure you have almost all of the necessary parts but is more expensive than picking and piecing together the parts from junked trucks and other online sources...
Seriously consider a cam swap... this is the absolute best time to do it even if you don't "need" it... the cam is coming out to swap gears anyhow; might as well get a quality aftermarket replacement and it's really not that expensive.
Study up on P7100 tuning that way you understand the adjustments you can make with the AFC and plate position... also make sure you absolutely understand how to time these pumps to the engine... countless forum posts where guys have timed the truck 180 out and they can't figure out what's wrong... or they've rotated the engine incorrectly and have retarded the timing when they thought they had advanced it...
Try and source a 12valve tappet cover and ditch the 24valve puke bottle... chances are you're going to have oil spilling out of there since the P7100 returns it's lube oil right into the front cover where the 24valve breather element is...
Study, study, study... there are no instructions out there to do the swap... you either know what and where things are going or you don't...

I did my conversion 3 years ago, have never regretted it for a second. Only reason its not in DD duties anymore is because 2wd doesn't perform well in 12"+ of snow with no weight in the back.

I bought the conversion kit out of convenience... I had to have the truck torn down and back up and running within days because it was my only vehicle. I couldn't afford to not have some part or piece and be SOL on finding it on a Saturday at 8 pm.

That being said, the conversion kits are far from having everything a guy needs. I still had to source fuel lines, overflow valves, need a new oil line to the vac pump, a new crank seal, and so on. It gives you the big parts that will get you most of the way, but there is a bunch of knick knacky stuff that will have to be sorted out. I had the bulk of the work done in two days. The remaining week and a half was getting the little things that I had to drive an hour each way to get.

scheid diesel had a pretty good lookin kit. comes with fuel lines also. i just found out that the solenoid in my vp44 is shot and that my "new" well one year old pump is shot even though i had a air dog 150 on it from day one. anything you guys can tell me about this conversion would come in handy.
