Out Smarted by Smarty!

The Smarty worked just fine, actually too good. I'll explain.

I have noticed a little more smoke than I liked for around town driving so I decided to get the Smarty controller out & start playing around with different settings. I normally run around town on #4 which seems to give good throttle response and no smoke unless I get heavy footed. A nice balance if you will.

I decided to go to stock and see how it acted. Lots of smoke. Then I realized that the problem was not the settling on the Smarty, but rather the fact is was 110F outside. So I put it back to #4 and put the Smarty back in the garage like a good little boy. Life is good right?

WRONG!

I forget to recalibrate my speedometer to the my BFG tire size of 285's via the Smarty.

So what? (You may ask if you are still reading this patethic excuse for a thread?)

I GOT A FREAKING $150 SPEEDING TICKET WHEN I THOUGHT I WAS DOING THE SPEED LIMIT! The stock setting cleared the corrected speed and now I'm doing 7 mph more than I think. The ticket was last week. Do you think if I call the cop he would understand and tear up the ticket?

I believe they call this "Operator Error".

I put mine back to stock a few weeks ago for something. After I put it back to stock, I tried to change the tire size but if I remember right, the ABS menu didn't show up when I hooked up the Smarty. Can we change the tire size via Smarty after we have set it back to stock?

There is really that much of a difference in speed between stock tires and 285s? Maybe i should slow down a bit if i am actually traveling that much faster then what the speedo says. I figured it was only of by maybe 3 mph at most.

I know with my truck the 235s made a difference of 4-5 mph at 60 over the stock 215s.
Calculated with my Magellin GPS.

What kind of jerk gives a guy a ticket for 7mph over?? Or were you cruising at 5mph over like most of us and were actually doing 12 over??

Nope, it's called malfunctioning equipment. Have a mechanic sign off on recalibrating your speedo & send it in w/ your ticket to the court.

even if it is "Malfunctioning Equipment" its still the drivers fault because it is your job to get that speedo recalibrated.. i got a ticket for 83 in a 75 because i had 35"s on my truck and hadnt got the speedo redone. The Judge told me it was my fault and i still got the ticket.

I just know that in the past, that's how I ended up getting out of it. You have to have proof that the problem has been fixed though.

I was doing 47 in a 35. Minus the tire error & I was doing 40.

In Lincoln, NE they will give you a ticket for 5 over. There are speed traps all over this city too. It is rediculous. Don't get me started.

This crazy city will take a perfectly good stretch of 55mph paved road, widen it to 4 lanes with a medians & turn lanes, and reduce the speed to 35 mph. I could show you 50 miles as examples in the past 5 years. It's nuts.

Lincoln is silly sometimes, especially on the lonely stretch of hwy 2 that I take to catch I-29 south and avoid having to go all the way to Omaha. That stretch on 2 seems to take forever because you have to go slow-- lotsa coppers!

When they build a road designed for 55 mph and set the speed limit at 35 mph it is called "Revenue enhancement"

Use your "James Bond Smoke Screen" to lose the cop on a dirt road. Did I say that? I would never do that....

Just thank the cop for putting his life on the line for us everytime he goes on duty and pay the ticket. That is all we can do. After so many of my close trooper friends have been killed in the last few years, I just don't argue with them anymore. I'm thankful they are out there. I'm not as thankful when I get tickets, like for stupid seatbelts, like the other day, but thankful none-the-less.

I got a stupid ticket like that myself a couple years ago......speedo was 5mph off cuz of my 35's on my Ram 1500....and the dang guy pulled me over for doing exactly 5mph over.

Never had a speeding ticket in my entire life and I got one for THAT!!! And then he treated me like I was some bad seed and that I was scum of the earth!!
