Orifice boost elbow on and '01 automatic
I just installed my new Van Aaken box and it came with an orifice boost elbow. I thought I read on here somewhere that you can not run the EZ boost elbow on an automatic. Is this true for the orifice elbow that comes with the Van Aaken? It looks like it delays waste gate operation by creating a pressure drop. Does this change the shift pattern?

It depends what type of orifice they sent you. With automatic you have hardline not rubber. You have to drill out and tap, then screw orifice in( if it is same as mine used to be). Maybe they sent you wrong part, call and find out if it won't work with instructions supplied.

01's & 02's automatics could not use the boost elbow...for reasons mentioned above.
It should work with your HX-35, since it has the hose connection to the wastegate.
In 01, Dodge switched to the smaller HY-35 turbo on automatics....strictly for emmisions control. Be glad you have the HX-35! It will allow addition of much more HP before you run out of usable air. Keep your boost at or below 35 psi for max efficiency.
The elbow DOES delay wastegate opening by blocking flow to the wastegate actuator. By itself, it does not change shift patterns....but as you add HP, you will see a minor changes/delays. Not a big concern, IMO.

I turnbuckled my wastegate on my 01' Auto and it made a difference. I was barely hitting 20psi before and now I'm at about 35psi...........helped keep my EGT's cooler longer so I could actually stay in the throttle for more than a couple seconds at a time!!
