...I just bought a pair from Costco, they beat the pants off the Les Schwab "best" by CCA, warranty and price. As there are only two battery manufacturers of note dealing in the US (so I've been told), I think I got a pretty good deal. Anybody else try these before?

Something I've noticed about my Red Tops. There's no doubt that my truck's preheaters take longer to heat up than they did with the standard flooded cell batteries. I don't know if the Optima's internal resistance is higher, or perhaps they cannot supply the 180 amps needed to run the grids quickly enough. But I sit there with the WTS light on for a much longer time than I did before.

WOW I've never priced them before, so I can't give you a comparison, but I hope for your sake they last a LONG time at that price.

Whoa fellas...I think there may be a little confusion here, so lets get our facts straight. All yellow top Optima batteries are not created equal.
There are the regular deep cycle yellow top (Group 34/78):

Specs: http://www.optimabatteries.com/publi..._78_082104.pdf
Then there is the "Big Boy" Commercial (Group 31) yellow top - this is an entirely different battery from a regular yellow top:

Specs: http://www.optimabatteries.com/publi...31A_082104.pdf
This is a KILLER battery and $210 isnt a real bad price.

Your absolutely right Evil, I sit corrected. I own the Group 34/78 and not the Group 31 so being that the lighter of the two Yellow tops goes for $140 to $160....$210 for the Group 31 is a good price.
Oh and sorry, I know it should have been Dr. Evil...the whole 6 frickin' years in evil medical school thing...my apologies.
Well when mine go out I'll have to hunt down a pair of those Group 31's and if all goes well I should have a comparison in say 10 to 12 years.....stand bye folks

Thanks, wasen't sure if $210 was a good deal I kind of high(i knew the guy)but like you said it is a Commercial type.I use my 12,000 winch,2000 inverter, plow, roof top yellow lights, etc. so that is why i went with 31's.
