Optima Batterys
I just went to a automotive store in Va looking for 2 optima batterys
Red tops Group 34/78 and was told they had the Yellow tops but no
Red tops that they had a recall on them. anyone heard anything
about this? Salesman wouldn't say why.

What is the difference between the yellow and red ones? I know that the red ones supposedly have better cranking and the yellows do better for running accessories, at least that's what I've been told. Is there any problems running the yellow ones? I just put 2 in my truck 3 months ago (along with a new alt) and everything electrical works better, i.e. lights are a bit brighter and stereo plays better. I have noticed that anyone else on here refers to the red tops....what's up?

I sent an e-mail to Optima and got a response. There is no recall.
If you let Optima know which store it was they will give you a new set of batteries free. Maybe.

IMO Optimas are terrible batteries, I few guys I know who run auto stores, have told me optimas have the highest return rate of any battery they sell. Some of my offroading friends who really "use" they're batteries for winches etc, have had terrible experiences with optimas (3 batteries in 4 months). If you have had good experiences please chime it, but I figured I'd throw in what I knew about them

A friend of mine owns an Audio shop and runs the yellow tops on all his auto applications. He got 5 years out of his last one and it played all the time with the car off. He says the yellows run accessories longer with out draining and they charge up better. The red tops have superior cranking amps. I don't know of any other differences other then that. I do know I get louder tighter bass and all in all it play's for the weekend @ the campfire then fires right up on sunday to go home!

12v stereo systems put out about 30% more power when fed 14-15v ( where most of todays amps are rated) so big reserve capacity batterys make a huge difference in high powered systems.
