Optima Battery Warranty

For some reason my 30 month old Optima Red Tops are only holding a charge of 12.18 volts when I check it in the morning after letting the battery "rest" all night. This is only 25% charge, and not good going into winter. They charge up during the day and discharge at night. Nothing is on because I can let the truck sit for a week and it will still start, barely.

Anyone have to use the 36 month warranty? How does it work? Prorated or full replacement? I got them at Sears so they should be good to work with.

I have had them replaced before. Go to an Optima Distributor and INSIST that they replace them under warranty and they should accommadate you.

Do they replace them free?

You have to use a battery charger to charge them up...

Pull em and charge em... see what happens...

Happened to me before as well...

Well I took them to Sears and they put them on their fancy machine and they were bad. Not sure what I did, but I got a pair of Red Tops for free!

What blows but is understandable is that when you get free replacement batteries the warranty ends at the same time the bad batteries did.
My observation has been if a battery makes it though it's first year that it will make it all the way though warranty. If they are going to fail it's usually early on.

optima batterys don't like slow drains on the battery things like .75 of an amp or even .25 amps it burns them out on the inside. I had this problem when I worked at IAC (international armoring corp) custom armord cars. when you know cars will sit for a week or so we disconected the batterys on them via a quick switch. and just turn them off. optimas love to be stored with a charge and they will hold it for a year held at room temp but not slow drain even if its a on off drain the battery doesn't like it.

That must have been it, slow drain, that killed my batteries. I did the "power window jumper" 2 years ago. It makes the windows works all the time. It's a great idea, but when you do it it leaves the little green indicator lights on in the doors. It drained the batteries pretty good over night.

459.90 for two Odessy p-2150 + 80 shipping. bought them from www.batterymart.com they are really great people to work with. hey it keeps the check gauge like turned off and the lights don't dim. I am glad I made the switch. you have to look at the long run. they are going to last 10-12 years. and don't have to worry about them. I did make sure to put loads of anti seze on the hold down bolts to get them out when the time comes. and be prepared to hack the traysup to get them in.. I run 2 p-2150's but there are some guys out there only run one of the 1700's I figure 2 would be better if I ever get stranded in BFE or helping out someone on side of road or what ever I can have the hazards and head lights on for hours no worrys. any more question feel free to send me a email. cole
