opinions on exhaust...

Im picking up my new (used), dodge tomorrow. I definately want exhaust, asap. I was think of just getting a big downpipe, and get like some 4'' ran, into 5'', and turn it out before the rear wheels. I already have a 5'' smoke stack off a big truck, but the ends are banged up, so I would cut it and use the good part.

Then I saw this:

The price is right on that^^^^^, but is 4'' big enough? I see these other guys w/ 5''.

Thanks

3# is good for up to about 350 to 400 horse after that 4#. Then 5# for the big boys. I did not see a muffler if you want one. At that price you should get the full flow muffler too.

You also see guys with giant spoilers on an otherwise stock honda. It can be done, but doesn't mean it should.

4" will be fine for quite a few ponies. I think the general consensus is that 5" won't help more than 4" until past 500 hp.

Im really going for sound. I want it loud, so no muffler and no cat. Im going for cheap, too. Im a real tightwad. I pull for a living, so I want the lower egts. Also, I plan on doing some performance mods very soon(once I learn what I need to do.)

Im new to Dodges. Ive been in a 97 Ford, w/ 3'' round dp, straight 3'' exhaust, high flow air filter, and superchips programmer (on highest setting). I definately want my Dodge to AT LEAST hang w/ it. And I already know, the Cummins will sound like sex, compared.

Thats not a cat you see under there. Its a resonator. A lot of people think thats a cat.

LOUD??? CHEAP???? Ok, get ya a piece of three inch from a muffler shop, roughly 65" long, expanded on one end. Slip that in place of your muffler and resonator. Go buy a 18" x 5" tip of your choice. Grand total......$60, loud??
Everyone I drove past in Western NY was looking at me go by.......I guess it's because a truck with my exhaust would not pass inspection without the muffler/resonator. Sounds good, inexpensive and loud......

DodgeGuy is right about the 3" being loud. High velocity makes some loud exhaust. I had mine in front of the wheel, straight 3" on my 99. I thought my ears were gonna bleed coming back from NO with my trailer, and I like it loud.

I have installed a bunch of different exhaust systems for people, and I must say the that MBRP is a top notch system that fits like a glove, very nice. If you want loud just drop out the muffler and put in a piece of straight pipe. I did, sounds good, not bad when running empty, but a little much towing for many, many hours.

My buddy went from factory straight piped to 4 inch turbo back with the muffler (couldn't wait on the delete pipe so we installed it with the muffler) tunred around and it was no louder or quieter bout the same. Then we made the 4 inch full straight pipe and it was a little deeper but still sounded the same, not much difference over factory.

EGTs drop almost about 150 degrees through with the 4 inch.
