One more plowing question ...

One more plowing question ...
Actually more of a front end suspension question maybe.

Anyways, THe Western V-plow came in for the truck and they were about to mount it then realized that Western doesn't recommend the plow for the diesel due to the weight, but that they will mount it if I want them to. They say that the Western 8.5' proplow will go on no problemo according to Western. The only difference is the weight 880 pounds for the V and 745 pounds for the straight. Mounting kit is the same for each.

Am I looking for a pile of trouble if I go ahead with the extra 150 or so pounds of wieght up front? (given that the weight is also cantilevered ahead of the axle by about 5') or should I stay by the numbers?

Thanks for your input.

Ken

Re:One more plowing question ...
One of the things you have to realize with a plow is the 150lbs for the mount is always there but when you are in transport or lift 880lbs is cantilevered out front which affects the alignment and the spring wear. Check out plowsite.com they have forums on all of this and more for mods and upgrades. The Dodge has one of the heaviest front ends available up to 2002 with the exception of the F450-550 Ford chassis. PK

Re:One more plowing question ...
With a heavy plow like that are you exceeding your front axle weight? Any liability concerns with that? Warranty issues with DC? Tires rated for that weight? Hate to pop a tire in a snowstorm and end up upside down (not likely I'm sure but...)personally I'd look deeper into it. Western has some reservations about the install maybe you should also.
Just my .02
Paul
'03 HO/6SPD quad sb

Re:One more plowing question ...
don't worry about it. go with the v plow. Up here that's all you see are 2500 and 3500's with fisher v's or western straight blades. the front axle is 5200 lbs if u have a diesel, and if you are really concerned, buy a set of timbren lead helpers, and for sure u'll have no problems at all. The extra hundred or so pounds is not going to make it or break it. Face it, your beating the sh#$#%t out of it by plowing anyways. just make sure to treat it with respect and it will treat you right. I have been plowing with dodges for 10 years now, and with v blades for 7 of those ten. first had a western v on a 97 3500 x cab, then on a y2k 2500 x cab sb diesel. Finally got a fisher ezv in the y2k and now i have e 03 3500 quad drw laramie sport.

Get the v plow, and dont worry about the weight. for info on timbrens, see www.timbren.com

later.

plow.
Don't worry about we have 2 Boss V-Plows mounted on 2500 Cummins with no problem. Heck we had a Boss V-Plow on a 1993 1/2 ton for 175,000 miles when we finally sold it!!!!!!

Re:One more plowing question ...
Thanks for the input guys. The timbrens are standard with the Western V-plow install (at least from my guy) and it looks like that's the way I'll be going. Guess I'll hafta wait until next year to try it out though... two more weeks and I'll be on the beach in Puerto Vallarta for two weeks then the snow should be gone when I get back.

Then again this IS Alberta and I have seen some good snow in June ... OR I could just go down to Shortrounds place and push around some dirt!

Thanks again.
