Onboard Air
Anyone with onboard air please post installation pics I have the kit laying here on the floor how much work is involved how long is the installation.

Has anyone considered putting the electric vacuum pump on from a Ford for the heater and cruise and replacing the vac/power steering pump from a mid-sized like a FL50 for a full air compressor. My power steering pump leaks bad and the vacuum pump leaks into the crankcase so I am considering going this way. Should be plenty of junk yard stuff for it. Might take replumbing the ps pump as it is a heavier unit.

hmmm me tinks ya might be on 2 somtin there but ford parts in my DODGE never - ok ford owns cummins I know

Ford doesn't own Cummins. They used to own 10% many moons ago and nearly as long ago sold their shares back to Cummins. It's one of the longest wives tales goin' I think.

I dodn't know if this will help you or not, but i can tell you what i did. I made a steel "box" out of 3/16 plate, it's apox 12" x 36" long the back comes up 10-12" and the front about 5". This I mounted to the pass side frame, right below the door. It's held in place with 4 1/2 bolts. In it i mounted a 8gal tank (main holding tank), a QUICK-AIR II compressor, small air bag expantion tank(ss 4"x12"
, and ecl switches and sileniods. It's very well protected and from the outside it only bearly noticable. It's wire d and plumbed in the cab so I can monitor main tank pressure, and air bag pressure, also adjust from cab. I ran a line to the front and back of truck, and put a quick connect their for easy access. Works real well.

check out http://www.onboardair.com. Am thinking about an electric air pump and a tank, which could be used for pretty much everthing except air tools -- for that you need one of those high capacity York compressors and no tank. Me, I just want to run an exhaust brake, air horn, fill tires, perhaps an air locker.

Ok I alreayd have most of the air setup see pic Im just using the york for the high output. As you can see I run the nitrogen bottle to keep the pressure at a constant 300 PSI so If I run the york to a constant 200 PSI I will be happy the two compressors pictured have a hard time making 160!

I guess I went the cheep way. I got an air tank from an old Frightliner and after I cleaned it up I mounted on the right outside frame just behind the cab mount. Then I got an air pump out of a caddy at the local junk yard. I used a pressure switch so when it got below 90 lbs it would turn on and when it hit 120 it would turn off. I put an interupter switch in line so I could keep it from comming on when I wasn't around, that keeps my battery up in case of a air leak.It cost me $10.00 for the tank, $10.00 for the pump, and $80.00 for all the brass fittings and air line. I also have an air hose plumed into the cab so I can keep an eye on tank pressure. I have used it to run my impact to remove a wheel off a car to have it fixed and replace it, also use it to air up tires.. I want to put an airhorn on and an air ride suspension, but thats comming down the line.
