You asked why so many people use Shell Rotella T 15W-40. 5 reasons, I think:
1. Approved by Cummins & most every other diesel
2. Fairly good price
3. Long repuataion for relaibility in the trucking industry
4. Wide availablity, you can buy it almost anywhere
5. Your oil should be changed when Cummins/Dodge says. Many Syn users say it is OK to go 2x on miles, but Cummins does not differrentiate.
Delo is also excellent. Delo excels in some additives, while Rotella excels in others.
Between these 2 brands, they represent about 80%+ of what people on this site use, as seen in the replies.
As long as it meets Cummins spec and gets changed on schedule, that is really all that matters.
Lots of choices, that is what makes America great!

There was a rather informative article in the April TDR about oil. Basically, he/the author said it didn't make any difference which brand you use tho the 15W-40 aspect was important. I'll concur with his opinion as well and state that brand doesn't matter. So buy which 15W-40 is on sale and know you have done the best you could do by just changing it.
He also stated that unless you're towing something, 4 month change intervals were more than fine for our trucks. If you tow, then go 3 months. But it was an INFORMATIVE article concerning motor oils. I hope you got to read it....
