Oil or dry flow air filter???....

Which is better to run with, an oiled filter like the K&N, or a dry flow filter like an Amsoil, or AEM. Which one? I've heard that you don't want any of the oil from the filter getting into the turbo, is that true and if so why is that? I'm building a custom intake and am trying to get as much air in as I can, and trying to make that turbo real loud. Let me know what I can do. What about a twin intake? Pulling air from 2 different locations, or could I be getting too much air, if there's such a thing??? Thanks!

Dryflow. I hate the oil kind... Never know if you're putting on exactly the right amount. Too little and it doesn't filter as well as it should; too much and you risk sucking the oil into the engine.

i watched my neighbor clean his K&N for his 04 dodge today for the 3rd time (only has 35k on the truck) and he used a half can of the aerosol oil spray on it, i bet i'll be putting a turbo on his truck before he hits 100k.

best part about it is that the reason he runs a K&N drop in filter is cuz Banks told him they are the best and he will never need any more air than the K&N and stock box can provide

So which brand of dry flow air filter would you recommend? Is there such a thing as getting too much air in the turbo? Or can you just not really get enough?

No, there's no such thing. Don't know where you got that idea...

Ok good, I'm not sure why I thought of that either. I'm making a custom intake so I just want to be sure on it. thanks.

Yea, maybe you were thinking of the airflow into the turbo. An ideal intake would be one with the intake pipe going straight out in front of the turbo. Kinda like a ram-air design. The more bends you have in the intake tube, the more twisted the air gets before reaching the turbo. This leads to lower fuel economy. They sell a TAG (turbo air guide) to eliminate this. It's really only beneficial if you tow. You also lose your turbo whistle. Cause turbo whistle is actually bad. I know it sounds nice, but that means there's more turbulent air going into the turbo. What you want is a straight flow of air.

Oil in the intake is good for an oil burning engine right? Just label it as internal rust prevention.

Oh wow, well uhhh the oil sticks to the turbo blades. Then, since the oil is on the turbo instead of the filter, the filter lets in big peices of dirt which stick to the oil on the turbo. Then it throws the turbo out of balance and takes out the bearings
