Odd question - Reprogrammed...but what?
I've got an interesting situation, and I'm not sure what I can expect to find, but here goes---
As you can see, I've got 98 24v that I bought in the Indianapolis area...right near the Cummins factory. When I got it, the previous owner told me it had been reprogrammed, much like is done with the Smarty. I have no reason to doubt this, as it fuels hard up to 3k as well as the fact that it'll throw a decent amount of smoke until the turbo spools. Likewise, it makes about 32psi at WOT, and it'll slip the stock clutch if I really get on it in 3rd gear or higher. (New clutch is on the way) Also, throw in the fact that it's from the heart of Cummins country...and there you go.
So---even though it's got the 275s, it's obviously programmed to throw extra fuel, but is there any way to tell if the timing's been modified? And are there any thoughts on what my best odds would be for a box? I like what I hear about the Smarty, but it seems like a Comp would be my best bet, working kind of like a Smarty/Comp stack...
And as long as it's all written, does anyone have any thoughts on what I'm pushing for HP? Like I said, it rolls a decent cloud off the line, but it runs clean once I get the 32psi. From what I read, my best guess is right around 300, but I'd be curious to hear what others think...

If you wanted to get a box like the Comp, you could go to the dealer and have your ECM flashed, put it back to stock. But maybe you've got a Catcher in there. Take a look at it, and maybe talk to Bob Wagner on here, see how you can distinguish it from a stocker.

theres a good chance the truck may have the MAD ecm in it rather than a reprogrammed ecm via smarty. in this case i would leave the MAD ecm alone.
find out if you have one by talking to bob/marco before putting a stock tune in the truck.

Well, I didn't see any 'void' sticker on the plug, but it's hard to see without dropping the filter canister. It didn't seem like the ECM had been ever removed or been apart and resealed, though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a guy that use to work for Cummins by the last name Jessup that lives in Southern Indiana. I thought I've seen on another thread before that he has done custom tuning for 24v trucks.
