I did not have the time to have someone drill and tap the block for the 14MM studs. With the 12's torqued to 125 ft/lbs I am good to 70 PSI.

Thanks for the update, Phil. How's it run? Are you liking the lower compression?

I would hold off on Cometic until a few are out there and some miles put on them..... They tried the diesel stuff before and the results weren't what was hoped for.

Nope... just a stock gasket with studs... I have a feeling most of the issues people have with oringing or fire rings are because of machining error or installation error, either that or machining an already cracked head I had all my machining (valves, guides, deck, rings, seals, springs) done at Raymac's Racing Engines south of Ft. Worth and they had TONS of cracked heads that they wouldn't even touch!!!! A lot of shops dont send out their heads to be fluxed and that is just retarded to me! Why drop 2-4k on a head that is cracked??

Raymac's said about 8 out of 10 3rd gen heads come in cracked
6 out of 10 2nd gens cracked
and about 50/50 on the 1st gen heads...

Ok two questions, Why are so many heads cracked, and how does the cometic gasket compare to the 0.020 cummins marine?

Yep EGTs are a head killer... also high EGTs before up to operating temp, fast cool downs, valve float + piston contact + ramming back into head = cracked valve seats.

Every now and then a cracked one comes from factory! Would be fine for stock uses, but wont necessarily handle what we throw out it!

She runs good, although I have been easy on her!! and that's no fun!!!! There is a touch more smoke, but you know those 12 valves always smoke!!! I'm gonna run her easy, then do a retorqaue this weekend, run her next week a little harder and retorque one more time. I need to figure how much that extra .030 dropped the compression ratio.
