NV 5600 gear oil

OK need some help. I'm doing a 6 speed conversion on my 98 12 valve. I need to refill the freshly rebuilt tranny and the transfer case. What can I run without causing damage? I dont want to cause the problems that I just repaired. I cant find the Castrol Syntorque oil locally, however I can find several quality synthetic gear oils in 75w-90 etc. Are these going to be OK or do I need something else? Please Help

I just did the swap on mine too. You dont want to run the thick stuff, it wont shift good. I put Amsoil syncromesh stuff in mine. ATF in the transfercase odly enough...

Amsoil synchromesh seems to be the best oil out there for the NV5600. stuff rocks. ATF in the Tcase.

Thanks for the help. Where is the best place (and cheapest) to find the syncromesh and what weight is it?

It's 5W-30 and you can go to www.amsoil.com and look up a local dealer. All dealers go off of their MSRP booklet, if you know someone that is a dealer than you can get a deal, but otherwise regular price should be fairly standard among dealers.

I'm running the Amsoil. It shifts worse than stock fluid. I really don't like it very much. It does seem to have gotten a little better over time though.....maybe I have just gotten used to its slower shifting. From what I've read on the subject, here and other sites, the consensus seems to be the Redline MTL is the best shifting lube. I've bought some Redline and it's sitting in the garage but I probably don't have 7000 miles on the Amsoil. I'm still going to change it soon just from poor shifting performance perspective. I can't say it will or won't be better from my own experience yet, but the guys I know that are running say it shifts as well or better than stock. It is still a synthetic and is cheaper than the stock mopar lube. I've also read others not liking the Amsoil.....which of course agrees with my experience.

Be sure to post your first-hand comparison Amsoil vs Redline info - I'm running 3qts syn 5W-30 motor oil to 2 qts syn 75W-90 gear oil, and it seems ok, but I'd like more data on the other stuff.

Go with Redline MTL or Pennzoil Synchromesh (available @ autozone).

Anybody running the Pennzoil syncromesh? I've found it locally. Is it any good? Pro's--Con's?
