Now I have to get 370's....
Well, it appears I have a scored injector that likes to randomly stick closed on me. So that means I have to throw $300 at the monster for new nozzles (we rebuild injectors at our Ag shop all the time). And since stock 160 nozzles are $46 a piece and 370's are $46 a piece I'm sure you all know which ones are going in there...
What I did want to know though is if anybody knows what the stock 160's are as far as # of holes and size? It's kind of a curiosity thing, I know the 370's are 5x.012. Just wondering if the 160's are four really small holes or even three? If so I figure that between more holes and the fact that I am putting thinner washers in I should see a more responsive engine that starts easier AND gets better mpg.
Also wondering if anybody knows of a place it nozzles for less than $46 a piece and if I should be worried about spray pattern?

So no one knows the specs on the 160 injectors?.... Oh well. I did want to ask an opinion though, should I go with 5x.010's or 5x.012's (370's)? I hear that the 370's are sometimes hard to keep cool? Should I just go ahead and throw in the 5x.010's since I am on a stock turbo? Or go with the 370's and move my plate back... I still have the 131 DV's so maybe the 370's will be safe with the #100 plate and AFC full forward?
Any help would be greatly appreciated since I will be ordering the nozzles early next week...

I have 5x.017 injectors and am still on the stock turbo, with the stock timing it could get REAL hot very quickly (timing was slipped badly), but after I bumped my timing up egt's level at 1500* @95mph @3600rpm in 4th gear. So I would say they are very controllable and my injectors are quite a bit bigger... I say go with the 370's, the only thing that might be of concern is some trucks have a rough idling issue (I think) with 131DV's. Even then get 370's

370s
cheap bang for the buck, and a nice kick over stock, Idle issues, yes they have it, they gag you, and they haze like crazy even at 16.5 degrees of timing. If its what u can get, ull enjoy them for a bit.. till u want more that is..

Dlittle those are some pretty decent stock injectors... pop pressures must be pretty low for those not to produce some way bigger numbers than 160...
So there can be some idle issues with the 370's? Just a simple rough idle or would it also include stalling? Smoke is no big deal around here the cops just don't like stacks . Now that doesn't mean that I go around changing the local weather patterns (nor would I if I had a serious smoker). Do you guys think that the 5x.010's would be better as far as idle quality/less smoky until I lay on it?
Thanks for all the help guys. Not a big power builder per say as far as outside of stock (tractor) puller rules and circle track racing so turbo diesel performance is kinda new (we don't have the money to pull the turbo classes [yet]).

Even with idling or other driving issues you won't care once you feel the difference in SOP over stock... My injectors have a few driving quirks that drive me bonkers UNTIL I lay into the go pedal and spin the tires from 3000rpm to 3600rpm in 3rd gear on dry pavement Deffinately makes up for it...

See now that was what I was concerned about... Anyone have their 161's layin around somewhere for extremely cheap? Maybe I'll talk to my diesel pump parts supplier and try to get nozzles and DV's for a reduced price since I don't have $600. Do you guys think that going with the slightly smaller injectors would alleviate some of the problems that could be encountered? Or does the 160 pump just suck that much? I've been looking for an 837 pump recently... Or even a dead 8.3 out of a Magnum or a WHITE so I could steal the AG pump

I just put in a set of 370s and am currently haveing the stumbling issue at a certian RPM when manuvering in parking lots or backing the trailer. I just give it a little more petal and that corrects the problem. I have the stock DVs and have no smoke at idle yet but am planning on replacing them to correct the stumble. If you have the 5x.12 holes can you just drill them out to .12 or .17 wihtout changing anything else?

on this issue ... has anyone ever seen it w/ stock injectors but larger DV's ? ... i havn't verified injectors yet, but while setting timing noticed i have 181's .... but i have the low RPM studder / stall issue that is VERY annoying.

i put 191 in my truck with stock injectors, throttel responce was better, and i noticed a gain in power. Just got way to hot to quick, coulden't use the power for long and got sick of watching the gauges (non gated housing)
I have been thinking of buying a set of 370, but i think rebuilt 215 with lazer cuts is what i will go with, sould be enought with twins when i go that route

if you do 370's you need to advance the timing on the pump to aroung 17* and it will run smooth with no stumbles or crackling and popping. i ran 370's on my truck and loved the power it gave. i never did try a set of custom injectors, but i couldn't clear the smoke with 70#'s of boost with 370's so i deffinitly didn't need bigger sticks

I am at 18* with my injectors and may bump even higher (20*-22*) to try it out, lol. But like Halerazor said 370's work well at 16*-17* timing. I might have my 181DV's for sale soon, I am thinking deeply about some laser cuts... when will it be enough!! Seriously I would do 370's and modify the DV's if necassary.
