not so hot over 80-85

Loving how the truck pulls up from 45-80 then seems to loose some of the pull.
Right at 2000-2100 rms, runnin smooth, just doesnt wanna pull hard anymore, how do i get mor eon top?

3 or 4k rpm kit, works wonders. mine has a pretty good punch at 120.

If this is not something new that is wrong with your truck, then I agree with gunracer1, it will let you rev with no defueling (they defuel like you described in the stock configuration).

Get the 3k or 4k kit and you will be impressed. Kevin

You must be someplace where the roads are straight... Up here in the NorthEast there are too many tight turns (even on the interstate) for me to worry about going over 85.

i can hit 85 on the onramp. and a #100 plate will knock out that top end defueling also, but the egts will be high.

It may have something to do with the torque curve of your motor. Our motors peak torque is well below 2000 rpm, 12V CTD I believe are lower than the 1800 rpm torque peak of the 24V. The truck is going to pull the hardest at it's peak torque, your torque level is going to drop off as your rpms rise. When your cruising at 40, your in the "meat" of the torque curve, when your at 80 there's not as much torque available. Simple as that

Still, it should spin up to 80-85, just not as fast as it does to 50-60.

Remember though, these trucks push A LOT of wind. I cakes a lot of power to push these things that fast.

Mine runs out of Pyro by the time I hit 85, I can baby it on up to 95, and can't go any higher 'cause I can't keep my eyes off the little peg on the pyro, and how close the needle is to it

i had my truck to 105 the other night it sputters still at about 2700-3000 and ive yet to get past the sputter and hear 4 grand, i checked my fuel pressure the other day, right at 26 psi, the funny thing is that before the kit it would pull all the way to 2700 and not sputter or anything now it hits 2500 and starts sputtering, im starting to wonder if ive got the springs in wrong, both are set right at .030 and no shims are in there though so i dont know what it is unless its injectors

Smokefrom4, if your truck is in good shape (fuel lines, filters, timing, then a GSK will do you allot of good. These things are made to defuel like you describe from the factory.

I had the same problem, till the gsk. Now I have yet to get it to defuel, I have not run it past 3200 rpm's, and that was only once. Like I said, if everything else is up to snuff, then it sounds like a simple case of defueling. Does you egt's seem to stabilize or even go down when this is happening? Kevin

luke h, somethings not right. You should not be sputtering at 2500 rpm's. I would normally say timing, but I se you are at 17*. Hmmm. Have you played around with the tension of the springs to see if it will cure the sputtering? Like maybe .040, then .045, then .050?

Sounds like a fuel issue. Kevin

Ill have to take a look at everything, but the 3k kit is a must have minimum. The truck is running great,
I might have an injector upgrade in the future. But for now, Im gonna put a lockup switch for thoe lower gears.
For years the truck was used for heavy work duty, mostly short trips, heavy loads around town.
I traded my boots in for a suit and tie, now i just spped to the office on the expressway, parneli jones style.
So unloaded on the highway, noticed a few things
1. definately need shocks, between plowing, towing, 95000 and some D25 coils , those tired OEM ones are toast.
2. I LOVE the heavy cloud i leave on those little suckers behind me.
3. and my original complaint, around 83 -85 , doesnt wanna keep pushing.
On that note, right after i got the truck, about a month or so (i bought it with 11,000 on it)
I was on some country road in indiana, and i pegged it out as high as it would go, I dont remember how fast it can even go, but for some reason 112 sticks in my head.
that was bone stock, but, years gone by, now retired from a hard working life, id like to get up there again.
Although, Im a few years older, Probably wont be goin that high again
