Not Again!

well on my way to work stopped at dukin donuts came back out and saw this huge puddle under my truck it was leakin crankcase oil it was flowin out quick.got to my shop opened hood and saw oil every where the fan made a mess. i dried off were the head meets the block under upper rad hose started up an try. look at the back of head with a mirro and u can see it flowin right out. last time the HG went it leaked oil out the front of head and u could see were the silcone for the oil pressure port that goes up stairs roted.so cleaned everything checked head and block with straight edge all good.bought new head set right from a local cummins dealer and got ARP studs.install went very smooth did all my re-torques for the studs. it was good for about 4 months and 4,000 miles has this happend to any body else. havent even ben beating on my truck b/c i need a clutch. as for the oil leak up front i wouldnt think that it would devellope two huge leaks at once i would of noticed if it left drips in the drivway would of gotten yelled at.

Sounds like the head might not have been within specs when it was put back on. I would consider going with o-rings as this would ensure you don't have it happen again.... What did you torque the studs too? Did you use lots of the AP lube when you installed the gasket, any retorques?

As for a gasket I would go with the .020 over 12v marine version modified for the 24v engines. This would lower the CR slightly on the engine and help with HG issues. There is also the new Cometic gasket, but it is very new and I personally would wait a bit and see what reliability actually is over the long haul.

I have seen boost related leaks not swap fluids..... Until it is apart and looked at it will be hard to tell what actually caused it.

I never swapped any fluid but did leak out gobs of oil, I went with firerings and so far the HG has not leaked a single bit of fluid or anything. But of course when it rains it pours and now there is something else leaking oil at the front of the engine.. arg.

Did you check to see if the block was warped any and did you have the head machined flat? Did you do your retorques cold or hot? Did you go easy on it after you put everything together? It might have been a fluke man, IDK.

A port and polish is a nice addition along with a fresh valve job, if you can get ahold of some more intake valves you could put those on the exhaust side so everything is matched up. If you were close to me I would say let me borrow the head for a weekend and I could port it out for pretty cheap but Conneticut is a bit of a drive lol. I just feel like porting another head, when I did mine I had a lot of fun
